Replacing horn...

Ok. We all know the horn is worthless. I could take one of those little clown horns and have more impact than this car's horn. I'm replacing it. Said. Done. Nothing more to it. BUT...I've never worked on a car before. All I ever do is minor things like check the oil, add washer fluid, adjust the headlights, change a bulb here or there...I'm good with electronics for hte most part, so I"m not uncomfortable working with the electrical system. Anyway, I saw soem horns online that wer efor a 12v horn system. What kinda system is in the vibe? Also, I don't want to do anything more than swap out the old one for the new one...is there ANY way to avoid additional steps? I know GM doesn't offer any horns...but is the coupling standard in any way?

Yup, 12V system in Vibe.I'm guessing that the Vibe uses a Toyota horn. Would a horn from an Avalon or one of their trucks be an easy fit? Probably expensive from their parts department, but anything that goes "honk" would be better than the installed "meep".There's another thread around here somewhere that has a whole lotta good stuff on horn replacements, including sources, installation tips and bright colorful photos.BTW, I have the four (!) horns from a 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood in my garage. Hooked them across a battery to give them a try. Very impressive. Sounds like the massed angels of doom are about to overtake you. Now, if I can only get myself to drill eight holes in my new car (that won't even be delivered until mid November)....

I went to Harbor Freight, and bought their car horn which is 2 horns. Wired them up according to their instructions, and replaced the stock beeper in my Vibe (2004). They work fine. I kinda wish I had Cadillac horns like another poster here! I had to improvise a bracket to get the two horns onto the one bolt I used from the old Vibe beeper, but it works fine! I'm thinking of adding a "La cookaratcha" type horn! That would be fun!
