Weight Loss!!

Post by GT_03 »

This is something i'm extemely proud to post, since May 5th 2003, i have lost 50 pounds as of today!!! I actually got a little bit of a story surrounding this whole thing. When i was 18 i was in great shape and was a avid weight-lifter. I even competed in a local event. Well, i was trying for a personal best on leg-press with doing 6 reps of 1200lbs, no that is not a typo. Well, on the last rep my whole body kinda shook, and felt weird, so i went home and rested. The next day i was in all kinds of pain and went to the doctor to find i pinched several nerves in my back. Well i had to quit lifting for 6 months, which at time was my life, so i fell into alot of depression and the eating began. Well i went from 220lbs to 290lbs over the last 4 years. Well, when i started my new job, i decided i needed a change and even though i don't exercise all the time and don't always eat right, but i try. The main cause is working 60 hours a week and really no time to eat considering i don't get lunch breaks or anything like that.So as of this morning i was at 240lbs, down from 290 when i started my job in May. Thanks for letting me get this out. I just feel great.

Very impressive indeed. Weightloss is not easy, and keeping it off is even more of a challenge. You should be very proud of yourself.

Congrats! I too have lost weight (not 50 pounds). I lost 20 pounds since August 30th. I can only leg press 515 pounds though - nowhere near 1200lbs! Although I must say I did start at only being able to do 385lbs in August.

I've swelled up here lately as well. Up to 217 pounds. I have a friend of mine that is a personal trainer who has willing taken me under his wing. My goal is to not drop any weight but to turn it into muscle and weigh 230 by april. I want to big, buff and tough for my 30th birthday. Since it's a milestone in my life.

I went on a program at the gym - they give you meal plans and a personal trainer for 6 weeks. Once I was done the program I kept the personal trainer. She's whipping me into shape. I don't think I can give her up now!

Congrates to you all.I have dropped 20 lbs (from 190, I'm 5'6") since August by just cutting 500 calories a day (this was mainly acconplished by switching to diet coke). 500 calorie a day cutback is equal to a pound loss per week. I am planning on being down to 150 by July. I was eating close to 3000 calories a day when I started this diet. I found that I should be eating around 2000 calories a day. So to loose wieght I needed to cut from there. So I'm trying to eat 1500 calories. I have found it really easy (now, it was so hard at the beginning). I eat a 100-200 calorie breakfast, then a 300-400 calorie lunch and a 900-1000 calorie dinner (including whatever I want to drink). I also drink as much water or diet pop that I can. When you keep your stomach full of water, it doesn't realize that it is hungry .I got this diet idea from http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/. This website even has a tracking tool to take your scale weights and make them mean something. (I say that they don't mean something on thier own because the level of water that is in you body (gallons pass through your body a day)) Did I mention that I didn't excersise either!!!Boy this sounds like an infomercial.

While most of you are trying to lost weight, I'm trying to do exactly the oposite.I want to gain weight. I took about 25 lbs within the last 6 months. Went from 140 to 165.Don't worry, I gain this mass by tranning hard, but by eating fat. I'm going to the gym 3 times per week and I'm trianning myself for around 2 hours.

Wonderful news from all the people who have lost weight!(as for you Sub-Vibe-R - only in my dreams to I have your problem)About 4 years ago, the doctor told me to drop weight "or else". So since then, I've gone from 225 down to about 185, back up to 215 and then down to (hopefully to stay) at 196.Doesn't it feel wonderful when people ask you "did you lose weight?"

thanks for such great ideas! I'm doing my best to also cut back on some calories and soda. I still drink a dr. pepper every once in a while, but not like 3/day like i was! drinking tons of water and going to a circuit training class 3 x's a week. i also started walking up the 5 flights of stairs in the mornings to get my heart pumping!

I also would like to congratulate all who have lost weight and are trying to lose some more. I am also in the category of "need to lose some weight". I was up to 245 this past March and made it down to 215 by July. Just started eating better foods and not eating so much at each meal. Sadly, since school started this fall, I'm back up to about 235 again. Charts and other resources say that my ideal body weight is around 160-165. If I only weighed that much, Ethiopians would be taking up collections to send me food. I think 190-195 would be good for me. I have to be especially careful because I have a history of heart disease in my family. That reminds me of something else. The Atkins diet is great for many people, but not for everyone. I worked very well for my mom and my boss. I would not do it personally because of the history of heart disease. My dad died at the age of 45 of a sudden massive heart attack two days after my 7th birthday. He was 6 ft tall, 180 lbs, and was very active. He ran track for exercise at least twice per week, played softball, pickup basketball, and other sports when he had the chance. The autopsy revealed that the 3 main arteries of his heart were 90%, 70%, and 35% blocked. He never smoked and only had an occasional beer with his friends. This was very unusual for a man his age and condition. So I have to be very careful. The Atkins diet relies on primarily consuming protien and unfortunately most sources of high protein are also high in fat/cholesterol. The last time I had my cholesterol checked about 3 years ago, it was 210 (at age 22). I need to be down closer to 170 to be on the safe side, so the Atkins diet would likely be more of a danger to me. Not downtalking the Atkins diet or anyone on it, because like I said before I've seen it work, but you need to take into account all your health factors when choosing a diet that's right for you. You may need to consult with a doctor or even a dietician to make a safe weight loss plan for yourself. My biggest diet problem is that during the months that I'm in school, I usually only eat once per day. I eat one huge meal and then go to sleep shortly afterwards. That is really bad. I hope to start to change this during my Christmas break (which starts in 6 days). drunkenvibe--you may be losing weight, but you are trading one health problem for several others. The ramen noodles and stuff are absolutely LOADED with sodium. That stuff is terrible for you. I know you already know this but it is worth repeating; consuming that much alcohol on a regular basis is permanently harming many of your organs even if you don't feel it or see any signs of it. You can start changing that today, but you really have to want to do it. I know you won't tolerate being lectured on this, so I'm not going to do that. But I do want you to know that I have personally seen some very good people have their lives totally ruined by consuming alcohol in that way. It is an incredibly sad thing to see and I'd hate to see it happen to a fellow GenViber. I have two people who are very close to me right now who are alcoholics. It hurts me very much each time I see them do this to themselves. I want to make them stop, but I can't. They are adults and have to make the choice to change on their own or else it won't work. Of course, you don't have to, but I am extending an open invitation to you to talk about this privately through the site IM or my AIM (my AIM name is listed in my profile on this site) any time you want. It's your choice and I won't think any less of you either way. I do wish you and everyone else here the best of luck on living healthier and happier. I know I will be trying harder to do this myself, also!

Congrats on the weight loss. I lost 50 pounds 225 to 170 by using drugs (not crack). I used metabolift from GNC and it worked awesome. Only took me about 4 months. I have found that weight is directly proportional to the amount of calories that you eat. Of you want to weight 200 pounds than you want to eat 2000 calories, 150 pounds than eat 1500 calories. Works pretty well with normal amounts of exercise. The easy part is losing it, the hard part is keeping it off, good luck dude.

i once tried xenadrine from gnc a few years ago to lose some weight. i took it for about 3 weeks and only half the suggested dosage because i'm relatively small. i quit taking it and about 6 weeks afterwards experienced some major health probs. i passed out at work, couldn't concentrate, dizzi spells, etc. they had me on heart monitors and thought I had cancer because i lost like 40 lbs in 2 wks. i went from 136 lbs to 98 lbs! found out it was from some stuff they used in the xenadrine. my doctore told me i was lucky. had i used the full dosage it would have caused permanent heart damage or if i'd taken the entire bottle, i'd be dead. i've read in many magazines and health watch reports about people that had similar side effects but died. just because it says "all natural" doesn't mean it's good for you! if you go with supplements and herbs, be very careful and read all there is to know about the stuff!

Very true, trd! I believe that these weight loss methods, which work by artificially altering the metabolism, are generally not recommended. People who take even the less potent supplements for an extended period of time tend to permanently screw up their metablolism. Plus, when you quit taking the pills, the weight comes back, plus some. These "supplements" just aren't worth it to me. If I put the weight on just by eating, I should be able to take it off by the same means, just in reverse.

lol. Funny you mention Jared. He's originally from here in Pittsburgh. Man, shortly after he went big, they were parading him all over around here. They even went so far as to have him sign autographs at local Subway's. That is a little pathetic. But statistically, Pittsburgh is one of the most overweight cities in the U.S. No luck yet in my quest for weight loss, but this is a difficult time of the year to attempt this. I'm still gonna try, though!

He's just some fat kid who claims to have lost weight by eating Subway sandwiches. Shouldn't they have called this the "Subway" diet? With all the fad diets out there now, it would seem fitting. I knew he was going to other cities to promote Subway as well, but all the way to Alaska? Wow, they're really getting their use out of this guy!

Anyway, Jared isn't incredibly popular around here, the story's gotten worn out to most of us around here. I still like Subway though, I get food there all the time.>

I just had a "measurement" session with my trainer last night. I've now dropped 22 pounds and 20 inches off various parts of my body! My fat percentage is now in "normal" ranges and I gained some muscle weight! Woo hoo! Too bad this week is a bad food week at work - pizza lunch today, beer and pizza (free!) tomorrow night, testers lunch Thursday and Pot Luck lunch Friday. UGH!

Hope,I don't know if you're Christian or not. If you are, you should see if there's a Weigh Down Workshop meeting in your area: http://www.wdworkshop.com, or you can apparently do the class onlineGwen Shamblin is the (admittedly, somewhat controversial) founder and a registered dietician. The cost for both of us was about $160.00 including workbooks and a series of 12 weekly cassette tapes for positive reinforcement between class meetings. It's weight management based upon some basic biblical concepts. My wife and I both enrolled in the "Exodus from Egypt" beginners class last fall, lost some weight, and are both successfully maintaining our weight loss. The whole concept is that you gradually change your eating habits back to what's natural and healthy for human beings. It's great to WORSHIP God and LIKE food, but not the other way around. You don't count carbs, or eat special foods. In the beginning, you concentrate on eating smaller portions of the things you like. Eating until you are 'satisfied', not stuffed like a teddy-bear. Try to drink non-calorie liquids, such as water, tea, or coffee, when possible.

yes, they have a program at my church... and they've tried their darndest to get me there... but i'm kinda one of those fallen off the horse church girls and have many resentments still... yes, i know... i need to forgive and forget. i'm a work in progress. my plans are as follows:continue my circuit training class 3 nights/wk, get into the sat morn spinning class. the other 3 days i'm not at the gym, run a min of a mile (i hate running), eat healthier (no more mushroom cheese burgers w/ fries for lunch), and do some aerobic kicking and punching on my punching bag at home... now that's a good work out!

I pity that bag when your angry there Hope heh. And I wouldn't even consider you overweight. I feel I am to skinny actually but still keep active. being active and watching what you eat is a great way to go there Hope, you'll fit into those pants yet... maybe. you got hips you didn't have then.

Water helps one metabolize fat, interestingly enough.I always found cycling to keep me fit and relativly trim, I hover around 165 with 10-13% bodyfat or thereabouts. An interesting thing I found out, if you want to burn fat nicely, drink something with caffeine and go on an endurance ride or walk or something (something 2-3 hours long if you can) and the cafeine will actually help you burn fat instead of normal calories.I don't have a coffee maker or else I would do that more often :D

Hope,The bottom line of course is finding balance: Getting to an 'ideal weight' and then sustaining it. Fewer calories intake = less activity/exercise needed to burn off what you consume IN EXCESS OF what your body needs to sustain itself.Weigh Down Workshop is not really about "church" at all. In fact, they are now excluding churches for new group meeting sites!I can understand your hesitancy to go back to church, even if it's not for worship. (Why it is that we Christians often treat each other so badly in the name of religion??? )Our Weigh-Down group had a no-obligation introductory session for newbies to explain the program and the costs before the actual class began. I urge you to check it out.

With all the sugar free stuff now, an Adkins type diet is easy to follow. Jelly beans, choc bars, shakes, peanut-butter cups, etc... I have gone from 222lbs to 200in about a month and feel great! I'm 6'1" and want to get to 190 and STAY there. Also ride a tough! exercise bike 4 times a week at home.
