Pioneer P7500-MP Install with Delphi SkyFi

Post by ragingfish »

So I haven't totally settled yet. Not sure if I want the SkyFi or the roady. But I installed the SkyFi anyway, and am giving it a test drive. Here's how it looks with my new HU. This is a crude install. Haven't run all the wiring yet. Nothing final. But I think so far, it's pretty damn cool. Here the pics:http://www.ragingfish.com/xm/Will get better ones in daylight...

I love the skifi, but it was annoying as all heck to not be able to read it..You gonna put a lighter socket behind the dash to hide the power for the SkiFi? It'll look a lot cleaner..I'll probably open up my dash next week, add a little more to the "Wiring for XM" thread.Good stuff, dude!

Maybe with mine being a touch lower than yours I won't experience that. But judging by the XMfan forums, a lot of people has similar feelings.I'm also gonna buy that little swivel mount thing you can get from the XMFan store that lets you rotate it on the VSM.Quote, originally posted by jahntassa »You gonna put a lighter socket behind the dash to hide the power for the SkiFi? And Nick, I promise I'll unhook the battery this time...Quote, originally posted by jahntassa »I'll probably open up my dash next week, add a little more to the "Wiring for XM" thread.Good stuff, dude!Lookin forward to the updates!

As far as killing the battery over time, I just shut off the dome light..the little "door open" light in the dash doesn't pull much power..I think the 12v socket is $5.99.. Or it was the other day..

Updated pictures! Finally did a permanent antenna run, and added a swivel mount to my VSM.You can see all the pics in high resolution at: http://www.ragingfish.com/xmHere's the quick rundown:I located the antenna on the hatch instead of on the roof. Keeps it from getting blocked by the regular antenna, and this way, when you read it from behind the car, it's facing you. Unlike Jahntassa, rather than go through the door seal, I fidgeted with the gromet for the washer fluid hose until it came loose. Then I ran the antenna wire through there. Less risk of rushing, and less risk of water leak! From there, the wire ran through the headliner, through the passenger rear quarter-panel trim, and again, rather than go down and finish the run along the bottom of the car, I continued along top, tucking the cable under the door seals, behind the top of the B-pillar, under the front door seal, then into the A-pillar.From the A-pillar, it goes down, into the dash, behind the glovebox, and will come out with the other cables. Now, for a permanent hidden power source, I installed another 12V outlet under the dash, under the glovebox. See here: This socket is using power from the radio harness, and is grounded on the right lower screw of the airbox, which is the same screw I used to mount the socket as well. The wires, instead of coming from under the shifter, come out the glovebox door. They're flat enough they don't interfere with the door operation. A night shot: And of course, what installation is complete without a decal! These are just the main focus points. The entire install, with larger high-resolution pictures, can be found at the above URL.Unfortunately, we all know I can't accomplish a project without at least one casualty. Normally, it's a fuse. Tonight, unfortunately, i was a retainer clip for the passenger B-piller. Split right apart. Thankfully, it's small, not crucial, and will be a snap to replace (pun intended! )Enjoy the pics guys, and if anyone has any questions, lemme know! Thanks a bunch to Jahntassa for his help!

By the way...Alpine just came out with a HU that'll be released in January...built-in XM tuner... $349 and you just need to spend $40 on the antenna..
