little help please

Post by mrgrn »

I got the new snows on today while it as snowing. they worked great in the snow except i now have some sort of vibration in the left front ? i snugged the nuts before i let it down then tightened them good. they were supposed to be balanced from tire rack and i can see the weight on the wheel. Is there something i cvould have done wrong, or could they have boffed the balancing? it starts at like 40 mph, could they have given me a different 15" wheel to go with the rest of the other three wheels? I am at a total loss here it is going to snow here foe three days and now i feel i should not be driving my car with brand new snows on

I hate to see a question go unanswered to be honest I wouldn;t know what to do... Can you get the tires inspected at a service shop to see what they say? If you think there is a mismatch call up the place you got the tires from to see if they can compe up with a solution..I know this isn't what you probably wanted to hear but genvibe is less active on the weekends from what I see.. give it some time I guess ;; good luck !!

sounds like the left front tire is stil out of balance to me. have them rebalance it or check it at least. i can't imagine you did anything wrong just changing the tires/wheels.

I would drive it back to the tire place and tell them it's not balanced. Maybe they did a bad job on it the first time, maybe they put a second weight on and it fell off, maybe the tire is out of round or defective.

Check the inside of your rims for snow/ice built up, this will cause your symptom. You could swap front tires and see if the problem moves to righthand side. It could be a defective tire (plys separating), when this happens it will show ok on most balaner machines (static balance). Just a couple ideas.Good Luck in the snow, not much of it here in sunny Arizona.

thanks for the help people. i will have them check the balance, i see the weight on the outside of the rim, but it might be wrong, right? i also will look at the different wheels to make sure they are the same.what if i put that one on the back?

wouldn't affect the balance of the tire, but you probably wouldn't feel the vibration as much from a rear wheel as you would from a front wheel. If you move it to the back, the vibration should follow the wheel/tire. If it doesn't then you could have a more serious problem with the front end. If if does foillow the tire, then you'll have the reassurance that it is only the tire, and not something more serious.

same thing happened to me. my front drivers wheel felt a lot of vibration at about 60+ mph. it wasn't ice because i had it in the garage for 2 days thawing. i took it in to get rebalanced and they had some extra alloy rims they gave me instead of the black steelies. once those were mounted and balanced, i haven't had a problem since. hopefully it's as easy a solution as i found.
