What is the"L" in VVTL-i: What is happen in the Engine?

Post by Train Man »

What is the"L" in VVTL-i Yes, yes i know it stands for lift but what exactly happens in the engine? I have found no real good explanations. Does anyone know, what would be really great are some technical documents about this. How does it change the lift? Any info along these lines would be great. Thanks Train Man

So wait, after reading that stuff you mean to tell me that when the engine is operating in non-lift mode that it uses all 16 valves but when lift is engaged, it is only using 8? That's what I'm getting from these explanations. And how does cutting the number of valves being used in half for the sake of keeping the ones that are operating open longer make such a dramatic increase in HP? It would seem to be about an even trade.
