When I switched my insurance the other day from my trade-in to the new Vibe my insurance went down over 200.00 a year. I traded in a 2000 Sunfire, which had (in my opinion) pretty high insurance. Needless to say, I was pretty pleased. Getting a more valuable, and 4 year newer car, and paying less insurance was a pleasant surprise.

Mine went up, only because I went from a car with no colision coverage to a car with colision coverage. It is starting to creep back down though. It actually went down about 250 a half. And it will go down even more when my wife turns 25
I've heard Sunfire has high insurance rate due to the air bag sensor located in the bumper.Air bag are very expensive to remplace and they pop easily on this model.

I bought it not as a sporty car, but thinking it was something economical from Pontiac. I didn't have the GT but it was a 2-door. They told me that the Sunfire was very popular with younger people, specifically young males under 21 and that got it the higher rates. Your explanation sounds like it may be closer to fact. Especially since it is obvious the Vibe is also popular with younger people. Either way, I was just surprised when I got the Sunfire 4 years ago, the insurance on our Montana (wife's car) was 1/2 as much as the Sunfire and the car cost more than 2 times more.

But I have to add that I was 21 year old and insurrance company does not like young men driver with bran new car. Especially when you paid you car more then $30 000.

Mine went up from a 98 4WD Blazer, but the difference was very small. I was pleasantly surprised, I expected a bigger change since the Vibe was 5 years newer.

I would like to compare my rates and see what the difference of being 16 is...I am paying around 560.00 a year for mine (the Vibe) with full coverage. Of course I am an old married guy too and I guess that makes a world of difference. I remember when I was 18 (20+ years ago) and was paying 850.00 a year for a brand new Z-28 and thought that was expensive. My how times have changed. Of course, come to think of it the loaded '82 Z-28 only cost $12,500 sticker back then too..

I've noticed a significant trend. I'll point it out to you, and see if you notice it. Every sunfire you see will be driven by a young male (ricky racer), usually driving it like a complete ahole, and like it's some kind of race car. This is no coincidence; keep your eyes out, you'll start to notice it to! It's no wonder the rates are so high for those cars.

WOW!!It is a good price (and it is for a year), but I use an insurance company that (supposedly) only accepts AA Insurance risks, etc., yadda, yadda. Supposedly they are selective in who they insurance and it allows them to keep the costs down for the people who are good insurance risks. The company is Unitrin Direct (used to be Kemper) they can quote you online. It saved me hundreds when I went to them a couple of years back. They are exceptional to work with too. I had hail damage on my Sunfire this past summer and they sent someone out and paid me all within a week. Very good people to work with. The other thing is you dont' have an agent per se. They claim that keeps costs down too...

jesus Christ...mine is $2700 a year and that's under my mom's name and mine...I can't imagine what it would be with just me on it. I need a new job so I can continue paying...my paychecks have been reduced to about $30 per 2-week pay cut...boss hired too many people...I'm so furious with that insignifigant amount of money...not even enough for gas for 2 weeks.
$68 bucks a month,full coverage,29,married,can't remember my deductable,I was amazed when I called for a quote.But I also have my 04 sunfire,a 78 jeep,and my house with the same company,so I get some discounts there...
wow! that's pretty darn good! but then again, i am single female, only 1 car. no multi discount and i don't have home owners or renters ins either. when i was married, we both had a car and i had a new 00 mercury cougar. our insurance together was only $112/month for full coverage and we were 21 with a speeding ticket on each. guess they figure you'll be safer if you have a family and multiple cars.
Well, I just went to Progressive.com and their rate for me was $3800!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Liberty Mutual was $1500-$3100. And believe it or not I'm pretty sure it said every 6 months!!! I'm pissed
Wouldn't they charge females more than males? I thought that was how it was...but then again half of my friend's go out and get wasted every weekend like dumb@sses. This sucks...I'm going to have to buy a new car, theres no way I can afford this anymore.
Male, 18, Drives a Sunfire. Yes I do drive it like it's a race car, Do I have to have a Corvette just to drive fast? Don't think so. Anywho, We pay $300 a month for my mom's 00' GP and my dad's 99' Sierra and my 00' SF added. Not each, $100, but they all add up to 300 so mine is probably highest.
[QUOTE=fuel4soul]Male, 18, Drives a Sunfire. Yes I do drive it like it's a race car, Do I have to have a Corvette just to drive fast? Don't think so. If you're driving on a racetrack, no. It's when I see punks driving like the streets are a racetrack that I get pissed...and this is coming from a guy who has a corvette powered car. But I was just throwing out why Sunfire insurance rates are higher...thanks, you proved my point.
Are you saying that everyone who drives a Sunfire is a younger male who does drive fast which the way your implying is also driving bad? Your doing exactly what insurance companies do..
Quote, originally posted by fuel4soul »Are you saying that everyone who drives a Sunfire is a younger male who does drive fast which the way your implying is also driving bad? Your doing exactly what insurance companies do..No, read my post. I never said fast=bad. I said driving like an ahole...tailgating, passing on the left, in and out of traffic, and speeding through residential areas. I like to drive fast too. There's a big difference between fast and bad. And it's true, you don't see too many sunfires 'pimped out'. The guys I'm talking about generally are driving stock cars.
I drive fast, but not bad. I don't tailgate or speed in residential areas, I rarely even do speed unless it's out of city limits and even then it's only 5-10 mph over the limit. My Sunfire is also stock, I don't like many cars if they aren't stock.
I love racing on the roads, since I can't on a strip, and I wont stop until I can't drive. If I die, then atleast I die content...I love cars more than anything so if I die, I want it to be in my car.I too NEVER tailgate, since that is a bit too dangerous, and I never go over 20 in residential. I only go about 5mph over the speed limit if it's an emergency.Don't get me wrong, I only race if no one's infront of me for a ways.
Are you kidding me...you like racing on the roads, but tailgating is too dangerous? LOLI don't mind when people who like to race on the streets die...it's their own dumbass fault. I just dislike my insurance rates going up because of it...and the innocent victims they take with them.
Well, if you tailgate, that is a really crappy reason to get into an accident. Besides it doesn't make anyone go faster, infact makes them go slower. Also, just because you get into a racing accident doesn't mean everyone involved automatically dies, that's what everyone seems to think. You don't have to even get into an accident actually....a race could be a simple drag race to the speed limit of 45mph or what ever it is posted at, and stopping at that. It doesn't mean you have to go 140mph zig zagging in between cars and cutting everyone off.Believe me, if I had the opertunity to race on the strip I would definately do that instead...well maybe not instead but I wouldn't race on the streetsas much, I can't go to the strip though so...
That's fine, I understand why he gets irritated about it, but it can't be stopped, and everyone automatically asumes that when ever someone races, they will eventually get into an accident and die, which doesn't happen too often.
Quote, originally posted by Merzbow »That's fine, I understand why he gets irritated about it, but it can't be stopped, and everyone automatically asumes that when ever someone races, they will eventually get into an accident and die, which doesn't happen too often. No, you don't understand. I've been a paramedic for 13 years. I only see the ones that end badly. And all too often it's not the racer it ends badly for; it's some poor shmuck on the way home with groceries for her kids. So if you think I'm just being argumentative, that's fine. I'm not going to convince you. Maybe when you grow up, have a few kids, and see the value of life you'll realize how stupid it is. Until then, you can stop wondering why young males pay so much more insurance. It's not 'stereotyping' on behalf of insurance companies, it's reality.
yes, but when you scrape the morons off the road, chances are, they were in a really fast car, or just speeding rediculously. a race to 45 or even 55 in a front wheel drive 4 cyl. isn't exactly that crazy of a concept to me. now, getting on a vette or mustang or such "muscle car" is dangerous. the tires spin and it is easy to lose control.

Hmmm, my beliefs on life are obviously different than yours, to me this life is practice for the next lives you will be living. The point to life is to learn everything possible to learn, so with that in mind how are you ever going to learn everythhing possible to learn if you live by someone elses rules? And since this life is practice, the way I see it, do what you enjoy and have fun, because you may not have that option in the lives to come...
yeah, but his point is that, if you want to die, have at it, enjoy being a squirel or whatever you come back as other people do have a right to live without you interfering with that right.

(off topic) seems like here at genvibe we have these discussions fairly regularly. There are those that feel that racing and other varying degrees of reckless driving is cool, fun, and to be encouraged, and there are others feel that it is wrong. I doubt if anything said here is likely to have an immediate impact on one group or the other, because the discussions keep coming back with the same points of view. I have been on both sides since I started driving. I'm now in the "arrive alive" camp. Also, for what it's worth, hedonism will take you off the path to enlightenment.(on topic) About the time I got the vibe, I also added a teenager to my policy, so the rates went right through the roof, making it very difficult to judge what the effect of the Vibe was on my insurance bill. It is good that the Vibe has lowered some people's insurance bills, which surprises me after seeing the repair estimates posted here after the fall epidemic of vibe accidents. Seems like Vibe body parts are pretty expensive, but I have no experience with the cost of body parts for other new vehicles, so it's probably just my own sticker shock. Hopefully the Vibe accident rate will not become so large that underwriters will rate the Vibe as an increased risk vehicle. Does anyone know how Vibe insurance rates compare to Matrix?
Drunken- Yeah you're right, everyone else has a right to live how they believe they should I apologize Joatman. I get fired up sometimes for unnecessary reasons...My mom and I managed to lower our rates to $2400 a year....I got the "good student discount" for having a B average. Knocks off about $300-$400, not bad eh? I still cannot believe that proggressive was going wanted $7600 a year!!! THATS OUTRAGEOUS! It's not like the Vibe is some 230mph super car that costs $600,000 to replace! Also, you know how it says on the commercial it wil give you a comparison of three of their competators? They only gave us one competitor rate.
$7600 a year? Progressive is big about pushing their internet presence. Maybe they were the only company that connected your insurance quote request with your posts here at genvibe, and thats why they gave you such a high quote.
(removed), with my luck that's probably what happened. Never the less, the rates are back to $2400...I still can't afford it...I need a new job. Does any one know any places that are hiring near the Mt. Clemons area that provide more than 5 hours of work a week?
