Remote Idiosyncrasies

Post by MadBill »

So, how many Vibers know that if say, you ran your battery down by leaving the dome light on and if after jump-starting it, wanted to leave it running while the battery charged, you detached the remote and managed with difficulty to get all the doors locked, that the (Bleep)ing remote, unlike every other GM vehicle I know, is automatically DISABLED when the engine is running? (Don't ask me how I know this....)

Lets not forget that the vibe is really a Toyota with a GM facade. I bet the toyota line probly work the same way the vibe does.

I've never seen a car (although maybe I haven't paid attention), that'll let you lock the doors with the remote while the car is running. My Mom's Honda, my old Probe, my Dad's 93 and Eclipse would disable the remote when the car was running...I always figured it was a safety feature.. But then..I only tried it once or twice on my cars, and usually it would not operate with the car running..

First of all, never mind the remote - it is disabled with the car running. How did you manage to get the car to lock with the key in the ignition? Mine unlocks about 1 sec after locking with the key in.Very strange that you were able to do that.

sounds like it behaves the way I would expect, except that I didn't think you could lock it with from the outside while it was running. After I locked my keys in it once, I had an extra key cut and keep it in my wallet. There was another thread on the locked and running topic at http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6822.

A wallet key is definetly in my plans! Among other things, I couldn't get a new key cut with codes from the dealer, because I had the locks changed in the spring after my ownership was stolen in a break in. (The dealer forgot to give me the new codes with the replacement locks)I was going to be driving for about 50 min. to get home, but I needed to leave the Vibe running for a few minutes because after the guy I got a boost from had left, I realized I hadn't refueled the company car that I was returning. If I shut off the Vibe while I went to refuel, it wouldn't start when I came back and I'd need another boost. For various reasons, I have locked (and unlocked!) many GM vehicles with the remote while they were running, without any problem. Live and learn, I guess....

ever other GM car that I have owned was able to be locked while running . I guess this is just one of these Toyota things that we will have to live with.
