Just got REAR ENDED!

Post by savedbyzero »

At a light in Arlington and BOOM! Guy in a 'Rolla drilled me! Looks like I'll be getting a new bumper...Too bad there isn't any aftermarket rear bumpers out! It has to big gouges from his plate bolts and is buckled from the impact. He then had the nerve to ask if he could go because he had to get back to work! I said, "NO! The cop is on his way and I'm not the idiot that didn't use his brakes! Sorry about your luck!"'Twas an accident, though....

That's rough, glad (hope) you're ok, pay attention to any developing head/neck/back problems, sometimes they don't show up right away. Since it's the other guy's fault, his insurance should get your car back to as new condition, regardless of cost. Get the police report. Do you need to let your insurance company know about hte accident? I got rear-ended once in a different vehicle and the culprit's insurance company tried to not pay, I got my insurance company involved and they fought the battle for me, car got fixed, no increase in premiums for me, but that was a while ago.If the bumper is buckled, then there's probably some more things under it that may be damaged. Make sure they fix it all. What is it, open season on Vibes? All y'all, be careful out there

I was fine when the police officer asked me, but later that night I couldn't lie down and it hurt to have anyone touch my neck/shoulders. Dad got mad at me for not saying anything to the officer and/or going to the hospital, but I felt fine at the time. So keep an eye on yourself, and if anything seems off, go to the doctor.

The head rest idea is all well and good, if you have one. The occupant in the center of the back seat (as I was) doesn't have a headrest.

This goes back to what I have been saying for years now...I think there should be some kind of an IQ test for drivers. That way the people with the "late for work," "I didn't see you," etc. excuses, won't be on the road.

My dad's '02 Trailblazer doesn't have a 5th headrest, either. It does have a shoulder belt in the center though.

lots of 5 star crash rated vehicles are cars w/unibodys (body and frame are intergrated)....body on frame (frame seperate from the body) cars ARE normally cheaper to fix but with the hi tensile steel they are making the frames out of, they wont be cheaper for long!! most frames (uni or body on frame) have "spring steel" in them..basically when you pull to straighten, they pull back to a certain degree...takes alot of pulling to straighten...remeber m-b will be making their m series suv on a unibody frame and rumor is so will range rover...some of your safest vehicles are volvo and they are unibody. what saves full frame vehicles is weight, a 5,000lb to 7000lb suburban or excursion/expedition is less likely to crumple than a santa fe at 3200lbs....full frame cars are fine and are easier to repair but salsa is right about the crumple zones...a stiff frame that doesnt allow some predetermined give will divert that impact energy into the cab and human bodies give more than steel does...a funny thing happened during a iihs test some years back, they tested a s10 4x4 and found that the frame was too stiff which resulted in the engine being shoved into the passenger compartment rather than into the ground during a frontal collision. sometimes it doesnt depend on what the chassis is but how it is designed.

Holy CRAAAAPP..I am glad you are Ok for one but what the jerk did was outright idiotic. It was a Good think you kept that ******* there until the cops arrived. make you (as I am sure you will) get a copy of the police report. A damaged Vibe breaks my heart big time so find the BEST body shop that will take care of the problem.. good luck!!!do you have photos of your Vibe?

Most of the new cars/suv's are unibody construction now (no frame). People don't usually give a thought to what a car is built on. If it looks good, they want it, frame or no frame. A few exceptions that I know of are: Chevy Tracker (the replacement for the Tracker, the 'Equinox', will not have a frame), Crown Vic/Grand Marquis, most full size Pickups.
