Anyone have any creative ideas on how to get a better view of your rear bumper from the drivers seat. I have a real tough time backing up cuz I never know how close I am to the car or post I backing up to. I don't want to find out the 'hard' way. and it can be really hard to figure out how close that mini rear bumper is. I end up getting out of the car and having to check. My though was that I could put a mirror somewhere in the rear interior of the car to help, but haven't found a good spot yet. I think the rear midgate spoiler now makes it even more difficult. Any ideas?
Could do that....would rather have a mirror or a sensor though....Just not sure where to put it, I havn't found anything that I can put inside the car that will give me a clear view of whats back there. A mini cam with the video feed connected to a small screen in the car would we be awesome but havn't seen anything like that.
exactly. i have never seen a car where you could see the back bumper from inside the car anyway. unless maybe an rv with a camera, but that's a different story. just learn your car

Even backing up slowly can do damage...I once spider-webbed the bumper paint on my Buick when I backed into the woodpile at a VERY SLOW rate of speed...I was barely moving, just trying to get as close as I could, then BUMP, there it was.
A full size van? Sheesh. I can't imagine. That would be like driving a box. Yeah if you can back that puppy up without hitting anything, I'm impressed. I hate backing up to anything. I don't back into parking spots at all. Forward is the way to go for me. I know exactly where my front bumper is (though I can't see it because I'm too short).
In my Circuit City (my new place of work), we have those backup alarms with the little ultrasonic rangers on them. You attatch the senders to the rear bumper, and it beeps at varying speeds depending on distance. I haven't tried one yet as i'm still a month away from employee discount, but i'll be happy to let someone know. Also, I'll try to get one of those Performance meters from CC (They're beltronics, but the same ones as the Escorts), and see how well that does.Darn my need to spend money.

Any ideas? Your kidding right? how many years have you been driving?like the man said practice, practice, practice. why do you have to get so close backing up anyway? can't u see out the back window? I don't understand
The first time I backed up the Vibe I had no idea where the back of the car was and told my boyfriend. He pointed out that the rear window is the back of the car - there's not much more back there past the rear window. So now the rear window is my guide and it works great. No problems backing up... its easier than backing up my cavalier.

I don't understand New car owner fear I guess. Same thing that drives me to park away from eveyone else. My old car was a 1975 Plymouth Valiant. It was a tank so I didn't care what I backed up to cuz it had a solid metal chrome plated bumper. Vibe has a light weight fiber glass bumper that I hope never has to be used. Also it had a low trunk so it was easy to see what was directly behind me. But good point though, guess people just get used to their cars over time, including their blind spots. Actually I noticed that the 2003 4-Runners had a nice feature where they put mirrors in the top rear corners of the cargo area. They really brought our the cars blind spots. You could literally see beind the car. It was pretty amazing. (Saw at 2003 Car show)

I did notice last night when it was pouring down rain, that when I tried to back into a parking spot, I could not see the hood of the car behind me either through my rear window, or side mirrors. It was surprising to me that the blind spot was that big. Had not realized it before I guess. Thats why I decided to do the post. I may try one of those prox. detectors just 4 piece of mind. Plus its another cool gadget to add to the car. Circuit City here I come!

When you back up look in your side mirror down the side of the car your bumper is viewable in the side mirror.
