Baby Gift Suggestions for Co-Worker Gift

Post by Charlievibe »

Okay, the wife of a guy I work with is going to have a boy in February. I had orginally thought about trying to do something crafty and paint a toy box and then put toys in it. Major discovery, I am not gifted in crafts. So, I am now desperate...what kinds of gifts do you give someone who is having a boy? Girl gifts are a lot easier for me to come up with, especially since I am a girl. So please help me with some suggestions. Is it lame to give the mother a gift? I was thinking something like a soap basket for after the baby for her to relax. Is that lame?I want FULL honestly and lots of help, please. Thanks in advance

Is that lame?I want FULL honestly and lots of help, please. No it is not lame! My wife got a gift basket from "Bath and Body Works" with bath soaps, oils, and lotion which she loved. Gift cards from "Babies R' Us", sleepers or clothes for the baby, swaddling cloths or blankets, ect are good too. But alas, I am a guy and don't claim know all the intricacies of women giving women gifts. Wish there was a book on it, or a class. My wife really enjoyed getting things for her though, because everyone was just giving her baby-stuff. Someone gave us a "Dolphin Massager", and my first reaction was "oh jeez". It actually turned out to be one of the best gifts we got because it works amazingly well. It let her unwind, and focused a little well deserved attention her way. Heck...even I like it...and I'm a guy! http://www.beyond-massage.com/dolphin_massager.html

I usually give clothes if I don't know them too well. I figure babies grow so fast that you can never go wrong with clothes. If you go that route, make sure you get a gift receipt. Stores like the Gap will let you make exchanges months later. If I know what the parents-to-be need, I would always get that before I buy them clothes. Ex. vibrating chair, diaper genie, mat with dangling toys, etc.

One thing I noticed when we had our boy, we got TONS of infant size outfits, but when he got about 6 months old, they were now too small. If you are going to get him a "onesie" or something, get it for the next size or two bigger.I also think a gift for the mother is cool.

When I think of the milestones in my kids' lives, past or planned, forget first day of school, getting drivers license, graduating, getting married. None of that was as important as the day they stopped needing diapers. Get them one of those shower massage things, a shower head on a hose. When faced with a really messy one, they can just hose the kid off. Also, buy them a bunch of Desitin. Pre-greasing makes cleanup a snap

Since the baby will be born in February, a 6 month outfit should be for the spring/summer. A 9 month outfit should be for the fall. A 12 month outfit should be for the winter.
