winter tire help

Post by mrgrn »

I have a gt and the stock wheels are 17". I am looking for 17" snowish tires and finding it hard. Are there any other options, such as smaller wheels, and where to find them and what size tires will i need? I tried the search and did not find what i was looking for exactly.thanks for any assistance

Tirerack.com. I ordered mine from there. Granted I went with steel wheels and snow tires. They work though... they don't look terrible either. If you go to Tirerack, you can select your vehicle and it will select the proper size of tire, but for you info it's 205/55/16 for 16 inch wheels. If you go with 15s, I believe it was 195/60/15 that was determined to fit the best. It's in the other threads about 15s if you need it.Hope this was helpful!

since i bought 17in rims and low pro tires, are my factory 16in tires good enough for snow tires? more or less, how much of a difference do you think theyd make? or should i just leave my 17's on?

They would almost certainly be better than the 17s. For one, you probably bough performance tires on the 17s, right? I would say if you have the stock wheels and tires, go ahead and put them on.They won't be as good as dedicated snow tires, but they're better than performance tires. In my opinion, it would be worth the time.

I got 17" Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 snow tires installed last week....I just put them on my 17" inch wheels and will have to have them swapped back to the regular tires in the spring.....some people find it easier to have a second set of wheels but since I'll have them swapped by a garage its less complicated just to own one set....I've used Blizzaks before and the WS-50s are awesome in the snow and ice....they are expensive but worth every penny.....all they have to do is prevent one accident or fender bender and they've paid for themselves.....I compared prices on Tirerack, the local TiresPlus store, and my Pontiac dealer....my Pontiac dealer was only slightly more expensive and they have a "rewards" program where you get credit towards next car purchase.....anyhow since my Vibe was only a month old I decided to just get them there.....

The dealer was the most expensive place to get them....I think at Tirerack they are like 131.00 a piece...anyhow....my grand total for the whole thing incl tax installation etc was 747.00....its seems expensive but like I said I've used the Blizzaks before and thought they were awesome....I drive on my job and its great not to worry as much about getting stuck in the ice and the snow...if I did not have experience with how good tthe Blizzaks were, I might have went with a 4 wheel drive....also beware that Blizzaks have a high speed snow tire MZ-22 or something like that....its probably a good tire but it does not have the same multi-cell technology as the WS-50 and wouldn't be as good on ice....I don't think a high speed rated is really needed anyhow but especially not in a snow tire....good luck....
