Any suggestions for a good aftermarket security system?

Post by adogonakat »

We've finally located a Vibe that has almost exactly the options we wanted and expect to pick it up in a few days. The only big issue is it lacks the security system. After researching a bit, this may not be such a bad thing. There are dozens of aftermarket systems available and most cost half what the factory system costs and they have many more features. Readily available are systems from Crime Guard, Crimestopper, Ungo, Clifford, etc. the list is lengthy. Has anyone here had experience with any aftermarket systems and could hopefully provide some feedback as to quality, effectiveness, and other general use issues? We're excited about our new Vibe, but want it to be as secure as possible. Thanks for any input,Dan

I have an Ungo aftermarket system in my vibe and it works great. I have shock sensors on the car so if anyone hits my car (even a ding with the door) it chirps at them. I was also offered a perimeter alarm with the alarm system that would make it difficult for anyone to park near me because it would go off. (That wasn't practical for me because i do a lot of city parking.) Other than that i can't find anything wrong with the system...

Two way interfacing alarms are good but very expensive. It send a signal to your remote if your alarm is going off. So you dont have to listen for it. They will run you around $500.00 last time I checked.

As far as prices, get on the net and search for "car alarms", or "auto alarms". Most range from $50 to $300 that I've looked at. I just hate to invest in a system without some better review info first. There are a few review sites I've found, but I haven't read much meaningful feedback about these different systems yet. Thanks for the comments,Dan

I sell and install DEI and Audiovox products. I've been doing 12volt work for 12 years and these are the best I've seen. More important than the alarm you buy is the person installing the system. I've seen cheap alarms work great when installed by a pro. Ask to see the alarm system on the installers vehicle or store demo car. If it has a lot of extras this may be a good indication of a quality install.I have a Hornet system on my Vibe with remote start, window roll up, starter kill, horn honk, power locks, shock sensor...
