After spending my weekend down at VA Tech (the game was awesome!) I drove on Blue Ridge Parkway from Roanoke to Beuna Vista, VA. It was a couple hours of driving through the beautiful, twisty, up and down roads in the moutains. I'll probably post some more pics on my cardomain site. The Vibe handled great! I drove moderately most of the time, but then for a bit I drove more like a "James Bond" style LOL. Downshifting, keeping the revs high, flying around. I wasn't speeding much and I was being careful, but it sure was a lot of fun! Oh, and one of the best parts, the tunnel! Oh man does the CAI sound awesome through the tunnel. As I approached, I slowed to 40mph, then dropped into 2nd gear and floored it. On the other side, around a turn, there was a family parked at one of the over view areas and the kids were looking in my direction. Probably heard the engine screaming in the tunnel. Anyone else driven on Blueridge Parkway or Skyline Drive in their Vibe? It sure was fun to take it on those empty roads for a change. Seems like a different country compared to northern VA. Almost no other cars, although I did get stuck behind a couple elderly people going through at 30 mph when the speed limit was 45 mph LOL. It was so nice with the leaves and clear blue sky. The road was covered with leaves and as you drove by you would wisp them up in your trail. It was great!Later,

Everybody calls it Virginia Tech, but it is really Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State Univerisity, or VPI & SU, or Vippey Sue. My wife went there.
Yeah, I knew the Virginia Polytechnic Institute part of the name, but not the Statue University part. My friends and I just call it Tech, VT, or VA Tech.

sumtimes my speling iz not sew gud.Meant "State" instead of "Statue" Where'd that extra "u" come from? I bet the moderators, or the government is messing with me, editing my posts with stupid mistakes and leaving me to take the blame. What would a Statue University be? That just doesn't make sense. Virginia Polytechnic University and State University. No wonder they call it VA Tech.

Glad that you enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway. Your pictures are great. The destination for our June vacation was Shenandoah National Park. I took my seven year old son for a few days of tent camping -- just the two of us. This was our longest road trip yet with the Vibe and it was a terrific test of the car's performance, comfort, and versatility. As expected the Vibe carried all of our camping gear easily. What an improvement over packing the Corolla! The one disappointment was with the Vibe bicycle carrier -- a very clumsy design in my opinion. (I hope to puchase a Yamika system before next summer.)Driving from southeastern Pennsylvania into Virginia meant traveling on I-95 with numerous semi-trucks all around us through congested areas surrounding Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. My son was unaccustomed to being in traffic this dense and several times he would urge me to "pass this truck". With the Vibe, I could easily fulfilled his request each time. I was very comfortable in the driver's seat throughout the long day of driving. With other cars I've gotten uncomfotable after sitting for several hours, but not so with the Vibe. The first few days in the park were not the best as far as weather is concerned. We were literally driving through clouds on our arrival. On one morning the misty rain turned to a downpour just as I was beginning to prepare breakfast. We hastily put our provisions into the Vibe and settled for a cold brakfast. The continuing rain helped us to decide on a side trip to Luray Caverns on that day.During our five days in the park we went on a number of small hikes and I drove the entire length of Skyline Drive. I remember seeing at least two other Vibes along the way and one exchanged a friendly flash of its headlights with me. There were numerous sightings of Mazda Miatas (if I remember correctly) along Skyline Drive that couldn't be just a coincidence and made me think that a rally must have taken place there. Anyone want to schedule a Vibe rally at Shenandoah National Park next year?

I haven't taken the Vibe to the Blue Ridge Parkway yet, but I will one day. It is a beautiful drive & I bet in the Vibe those old folks didn't have a chance I did take it to Covington, VA a few weeks ago, which is a 4 hr drive from here. All of it on the highway, I-64, 81, 64. Traffic was up to 90mph at some points & the Vibe handled that with no problems.I also drove through some windy, hilly roads the next day to visit a friend...now that was a lot of fun. Broke numerous speeding laws out there (real close to WVA) good thing I didn't get pulled over But the Vibe is an absolute blast to drive on back roads like that.

If you want a chance to play with your car on some fantastic twisties I know of a gret place. Its in the mtns. of NC and its called the Dragons Spine. It runs from Tenn. into NC near Ashville. I cant remember the specifics but I will find out and repost. The view there is intense lots of man made lakes. I will find some pics and post those. This place is a motorcycle persons dream and great for a car if it is set up nice. Lots of turn outs for the tourist.
