Seatbelt and Insurance

Post by IceCold »

Cause of my poor driving record I have to find new insurance. Im looking at Progressive and naturally they ask about your violations. I got a seatbelt violation 2 years ago and the only category it fits into on the Progressive website is a safety violation. Only thing is though is that jacks my insurance up $220 over six months. $35 a month for a not wearing a seatbelt (there is no points with that either). Is the seatbelt violation in my driving record? Should I include it in my report to progressive or have them categorize it for me. Any insurance guru(s) who want to give additional advise would be more than appreciated. Thanks

Not wearing a seat belt puts you at a higher risk for bodily injury and thus, medical expenses, which is probably why it causes such a sharp increase. I'd classify it as a safety violation, but i'm not an insurance guru.

My insurance only looks for moving violations and accidents that are your fault. I guess all Insurance companies are different, I would not include it, they run a driving record check anyway before they give you your final price.....

My insurance is like robdog's, I only catch it for moving violations and accidents. I wouldn't report it either and see what happens. If you didn't get any points for this offense, then I don't see why it would be counted against you and why it would be on your driving record. The worst possible outcome is that they will find it and you will have to pay the $35.

you might wanna tryunitrindirect http://www.unitrindirect.comthey should be way lower than progressive. They saved me over $200.00 a month with my record and I had a seat belt ticket also.I have since dropped them because they went up on me this year for no reason I could see (no tickets all year)Now Im with GMAC insurance, beat them by $100.00 a month. Plus All my money for this car is going directly to GM now.
