Grocery Strike hits close to home....

Post by msmyer »

I work for Kroger and I'm not taking on any long-term projects at my store, because I may have to visit sunny California soon! http://money.cnn.com/2003/10/14/news/co ... oger.reut/ For those of you who live that way, what's new...any talks? The only info i get is from the news and from the store managers that went there from our zone!

i think the whole strike is a crock. (all grocery store employees, don't take this the wrong way). they work at a grocery store, period. how can they complain about how the benefits aren't good enought?? some people are making 12 an hour or more plus benefits to check people out. getting payed to use a calculator all day. the union thing just isn't fair. our groceries are higher because the employees are overpaid for the level of skill required to do the job. fast food employees slave over their job, then, get paid minimal amounts, they don't even complain, they know they are replaceable. not so with the union grocery store workers.

Our clerks "top" out at $11.05 (unless your a department head), but that doesn't include Benefits, Vacations, Personal Days etc.

that's more than i make. you shouldn't get benefits at a grocery store job, unless you are some kind of upper management. imagine mcdonalds employees b*tching because they have to pay a deductable on their company insurance."i am not making one more order of fries until i get a better insurance plan. i need to negotiate my retirement plan as well..." ----oh please!not trying to be mean, but if you want real money, get a real job.

Btw, I am (non-union) management and and I pay part of mine every month.....(note) This strike is just for union clerks, not management!

I've seen it! I've heard that the clerks in California on average make between $12-$16 due to the cost of living.....And they are paying the current "scabs" $17-20 per hour. $10-$12, doesn't look high compared to that.....

i have no problem with them making fair wages, but to complain about benefits and blah blah blah.i don't think unions are a fair concept. they all join together and make rediculous demands and strike if they are not met. they grab everyone by the conjones and drive up prices to meet their "needs".
