If you tighten the nuts enough, it won't come loose. I did mine by hand, never had any problems.

I loved my CAI. It was red-hot (fast) for about 750 miles, then CEL. "Evap emission control". I could reset it by disconnecting the battery for a while, but it would always pop back on after a few weeks. I finally took it off, and now I'm running an experiment to see if it comes back.It was fun while it lasted .... I made several warp speed road trips to Indiana and back from PA. It still had plenty left in it at 85 mph. But then there was that pesky trooper on the turnpike on my last trip...fortunately I was only going 76 when he locked in the speed and let me off with a warning.

Lorin, i see you also took your TRD CAI off due to the annoyance of the CEL. as soon as i took it off, teh CEL was gone. i am contemplating on getting a different CAI or short ram. if i get a short ram i will most likely get a ram air hood as well. we'll have to see about taht later.. requires money.

I'm thinking about doing a set of Hotckis sway bars and maybe going just with a K&N air filter. The air filter probably won't make a noticeable impact on performance... more of a consolation prize than anything.

Anyone have any trouble with the Injen or AEM CAI's? Seems that the CEL problem is only associated with the TRD ones. I am still contemplating an Injen CAI and am interested to see if anyone has had any trouble. So far, I can only find positive comments about them.

I' not sure why it came on but my wife had the oil changed 2 weeks ago. How often are these filters to be cleaned and lubed? My vibe had 15,145 before the cel came on.

now according to my wife the radio randomly resets the clock. I believe there is an electrical problem that needs to be tracked down.

MAY experience reduced fuel mileage. I don't think the CAI causes it, I think the running it up to redline all the time just to hear and feel it causes the reduced mileage.

I've got the AEM short ram on my XRS and haven't had any trouble with it at all -- no cei's yet -- knock on wood. From what I've heard, on the non-TRD intakes, the reason for a cei is probably too much oil on the air filter. And I would agree with the post above. You do tend to drive the car harder just to get to listen to the sounds it makes with an intake.

CEL = check engine light. With CAI, tends to be a problem with teh MAF = mass air flow sensor, which gets removed from the stock air intake and reinstalled int he new cold air intake.

there are others that have different CAI and they also have had probs w/ there CEL's just take longer for them to come on. If you don't mind the annoyance of the light, then it's no big deal. doesn't hurt the vibe or anything. just reinstall the factory airbox come time for IM.

I have an Injen on a base and have had no problems yet. Knock on wood. Huge difference in performance! Gas mi. is great as long as I don't drive with my foot down. The only drawback is that my car is not stealthy any more. People look at me when I step on the gas!
