Horrible Gas Mileage in SF

Post by fuel4soul »

Sorry to go off-topic cars with my Sunfire, but I didn't think it belonged in the Off Topic section than right here.My 00' Sunfire get's the most horrible gas mileage on the highway, Probably about 20 in town and around 22-24 on the highway. My tires are aired up to the right PSI. Is there anything else that can contribute to this problem? Thanks.

What silver said. It's auto trans right? Does it have some sort of Overdrive disable? You want overdrive for good highway mpg.

No overdrive, No lead foot. Will try the other things mentioned. My dad's a mechanic so that helps..

Defective O2 sensor can cause this. If it does not work properly, you'll be running too rich and decrease you MPG.

So can a plugged/defective catalytic converter. But, it should also trigger a CEL.
2003 Satellite AWD Two Tone, traded off at 180,126 kmNow the (fourth) catalytic converter is someone else's problem Now driving a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan
