Steering Wheel Emblem Replacement?

Post by BrandonMassey »

Does anyone have any badges or anything at all that fit the center of the steering wheel on the 2006 vibes, whichever ones are similar, I repainted my whole interior and steering wheel and when I took the tape off the center from masking it ripped a lot of it off lol.

I realize I'm responding to an old thread, but I have a similar problem.

The interior of my '06 (bought new 6/2/2006 with 26 miles on the odometer :) ) is stock, save for the odd part here and there I've had to replace over the years, but the steering wheel emblem is original, and as such, all the paint has long since flaked off, so it's just bare metal, which is not super great looking.

I've found that replacements exist on eBay (ex: https://www.ebay.com/itm/376735155556), but I don't know exactly how to go about removing and installing it without damaging something.

I wonder if it would be easier to get a whole steering wheel and just swap in the better looking parts?

I don't think you'd need a new wheel, from that ebay listing it looks like it fits through the airbag cover, which is something I try to avoid messing with. You might consider just getting a decal to put over it, such as https://www.grafxwerks.com/pontiac/vibe ... lay-1.html, although they offer a lot of color options but no pictures of the options.

I see.

Yeah, I try to avoid airbags. Too dangerous if mishandled.

That said, I am taking my Vibe in for yet another airbag recall (got a notice in the mail just today). I'm not sure if the dealer is going to be messing with the driver's airbag or not, but I wonder if I could somehow persuade them to install a new cover I provide (with intact emblem) for me?

Of course, they will most likely say no, but I have nothing to lose by asking.
