Water leak in the rear

Water leak in the rear

I have an 06 and id like to get some second opinions bc I'm not sure if im leaking, sweating, or both

I the rear of the car, if you remove the jack bin so that you can get to the spare, and then on the inside where the bumper is go towards a taillight and reach down and under it the frame of the car has a small bowle shape on each side and in each in there is also a small vent with some horizontal doors.

Anyway, I go camping and use my vibe for all sorts of things I shouldn't, so I stored a lot of spare gear and tools in this area on each side, along the wall but under the gray plastic that supports the bin, and in another cavity under the rear window between the exterior and interior wall metal wall.

It's been about 4 months since I last needed anything from the lower area under the taillight and today I realizedon the left side it's soaking wet. This was mostly actress nails roap and a few odds and ends all in there own zip lock and then in a few doubled grocery bags and even in some the ziplock it looks like I doused it with a spray bottle. The driver side is also wet but not as much. Strangely, or not. On that side a rat has decided to eat the rubber doors on the vent under the taillight. (No food was stored under here but rats do what rats do)

since I filled a typically hallow cavity full of stuff and live in a humid area I expected some sweating, but this seems extream and the only place I can see a leak coming from would be the taillight but it all looks good to me. Window looks good. And that driver side where the vent door is half chewed away, it's almost entirely dry.

hard to say

I'd probably empty out all those under tray spaces and behind trim of the extra stuff, wipe up all the moisture you can, and check it a week or two later to see if its still dry or if its wet again

I take it this only happens when driving on wet roads (rainy weather)? Also try shining a bright light underneath the rear of the car and look inside the trunk area for openings & gaps. Fill them as you find them. So you live/drive in a humid area? What part of the country (update profile for us)?
