Post by jack101 »

Picked this up a year ago. Very happy with the performance so far. No problems. Great little car. 2009 2.4 auto. Only 60K miles and good maintenance according to CarFax.

Welcome to GenVibe Jack ;) That's a rare find at that mileage so you got lucky finding one. The two in my fleet have only 40k miles, and then 180k miles. One of them has the oil burning issue (known to happen to some 2.4L engines) and one does not. FYI ... you may want to add factory fog lights to the nose of your Vibe. Easy to do and there are several posts here showing how to do it. Thanks for joining up here and visit often :D

tpollauf,

That's quite a collection you have. I can see why the Vibe has a following.

I had to drive a couple hundred miles to check mine out and have it delivered. Put a good set of radials and new brakes and am very happy with the handling. It leaks a little oil from the pan but I don't think it burns much if any.

Cheers from the Midwest,

Theyre really great cars.

I too have 2009 with 2.4l. but mine is equipped with the 5 speed manual.

On my car the rear brake calipers have proven to be the weak link. I've replaced several of them. As for the engine, the 2.4l tends to burn a little oil between oil changes. I just keep it topped off and it goes great. The 2.4l has plenty of pep too for a car of this weight.

Aside from the rear calipers its been very reliable. A tip of advice concerning the rear calipers. It is important that the rubber seal around to the caliper pistion has zero tears when performing a brake job on the rear brakes. Its very easy for these boots to get tears as the rear caliper is compressed. Once this happens, moisture begins to work inself into the caliper piston, ruining it.. I chalk it up to a poor caliper design. The part is junk imo. The seal on the rear caliper piston way too delicate.. if there was an upgrade for these rear calipers, Id buy it. I've never tried to find one though.

Another issue, the starter should be removed and have anti-seize compound spread on the surfaces that touch the transmission case. It can become horribly frozen into the transmission. That was my experience anyway..

Generally, its an extraordinarily well made and dependable car. Congrats! You found a very low milage one too with alloy wheels! Looks great.
