Heat shield issue

Post by jeff_j1701 »

Hi,

I hope this the the appropriate thread for this.

I have an '07 Vibe.

The heat shield between my exhaust and gas tank has somewhat deteriorated where it attached.

It looks like I need a new heat shield.

Problem is, my mechanic can't seem to find one.

The toyota dealership in my town has them for the Matrix, but there's 2 models; one is not available though as it was discontinued and he doesnt know if the one he can get will fit on my Vibe.

Does anyone know which model of heat shield for an '07 Matrix will fit an '07 Vibe?

Or, does someone know where else I can get the heat shield?

I'm in Oshawa ON, Canada.

Thanks.

From what found, the Matrix dimensions are 36.4 x 24.6 x 11.1 inches and the Vibe is 24.5 x 20.8 x 18.5 inches. (Source: https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-s ... 84740.html and https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toy ... 01030.html).

I found a few car dealerships that have them (one in MI and one in FL) so not sure that the shipping would be:

https://parts.matickchevy.com/p/Pontiac ... 84740.html
https://www.oemgmpartscenter.com/p/Pont ... 84740.html

The other option if you didn't want to order the part is to either get one that is close to the size from a local auto parts store/dealer/bone yard and trim to fit or maybe some galvanized sheet metal / powder coated. Just some options.

Speaking of heat shields, my center one directly above the 2nd cat, partially came loose. Was shocked as this Vibe only has 49k miles on it with practically ZERO rust! Anyways, I had to reattach my son's on his 2009 Vibe GT a few years ago so I knew what I had to do to reattach mine. I made some special "square" beveled washers out of 18 gauge metal to where they would grab a sufficient amount of the shield and hold it in place for another 17 years. Nice & quiet again! ;)

Oh ... I tried to add this repair to the thread "what did you do to your Vibe today?" but got an error message. That lengthly thread must be corrupt and forever gone ???
