Water leak solved

Post by steveassault »

I just wanted to share this. I have attached a pic. I have found tons of videos about Vibes leaking from the T Joint area on the roof. I had this issue. I sealed off the sunroof and the leak didn’t stop. I noted some rust around the windshield. I cleaned it and blasted it w air the best I could and sealed it w sealant. The leak stopped. My windshield cracked and I had to get it replaced. The tech showed me where the leak was coming from after the windshield was removed. There was quite a gap under the windshield. If you have a leak in the roof dripping on your lap you can’t figure out this is 100% the issue.

Steve. Good thing you needed a new windshield OR you would have never found the source of the leak. I assume you somehow cleaned & painted the area where rust was BEFORE putting in the new windshield? Anyways, here's the thread where I posted all my work when I had the same issue. Apparently it's more common in our Vibes than I originally thought.

I had actually stopped the leak prior to this by sealing around the windshield with some windshield sealant it had stopped months ago. It was interesting to actually see why it was leaking though. The area was cleaned up as good as possible before the windshield was installed. The tech said he feels like it would last without leaks for a year or so and would need a body shop to fix it for real which I don’t want to invest in as I don’t plan to keep this car much longer it has 209k miles. I will probably seal the area again like I did before and tell whoever I sell to about this issue. It’s interesting bc I watched so many videos about the leak issue and none of them mentioned the windshield being the issue. My son’s vibe I bought last month has the same issue too. I sealed it as well and it stopped. I know it’s a bigger issue but I also don’t think he will have that car long either bc he is a teenager who just started driving and will probably wreck it sooner than later.
