Viscous coupling from amazon?

Post by JJ09 »

Hello!

I have a 2009 AWD Vibe and I started having some issues last month. I took it in and have had two mechanics diagnose a viscous coupling issue and recommend replacement (I went to get a second opinion after the first). I've been quoted by both mechanics between $2000-4000 for a new part that would be under warranty, plus labour. Viscous couplings on Amazon run more in the $300-400 range, which is of course much more affordable but also riskier quality wise, and wouldn't be under any warranty if installed. I'm wondering what kind of experience folks on this forum have had with ordering parts of this nature off Amazon, and if there are any particular things or sellers to look out for. I know ordering less complex parts off Amazon is often no big deal, but this one seems like a bad part could cause some damage. Is it worth paying the $1500 extra for a warrantied part?

For context, I live on Vancouver Island in Canada and the closest new parts are in Vancouver. I have 196,000 km on the car and otherwise it's been driving well. Just bought it 18 months ago at 175,000 so would love to keep it and avoid the hassle of finding another vehicle if possible.

Thank you!

Welcome to genvibe

When I looked on amazon for one, I don't find any that mention the VIbe, just the 09-13 Matrix, and I assume they are the same part

I've never ordered such a part from Amazon, but if it were me, I'd take a chance on one given the drastic price difference. The ones I saw seemed to get good reviews
