04 Base - Gas smell under car

Post by Nica1Vibe »

When I park my base 04, I can smell gas. Some time prior to this I used to have a small evap leak, changed the gas cap, code went away. I put the car up, ran it, let it sit, visually inspected everywhere I could, found no sign of a fluid leak, and didn't smell anything while it was running. The smell is noticeable inside the car, just outside near the rear end. After the car had been running I could smell it. Could this be a bad tube from the tank to the charcoal canister or a bad canister?

Hooked up a scan tool and there are no codes found.
There is also no gas smell under the hood.

Has anyone had this problem before? Please share your ideas on this.

This seems similar to an issue I had. Turns out 3 of the lines from the Charcoal Canister to the tank were eaten through. I swapped two of them out, the third has a fuel connector on the canister side and I don’t know where it goes, so I still have to find a solution for that. But I’m certain one of those damaged lines is where the slight fuel smell after driving is coming from.

I totally agree with Franken. Had rodents chew through some of mine 7-8 years ago. I had codes too, but since making repairs AND replacing charcoal canister a year or so later (see this post: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=47004&p=527026&hil ... er#p527026 ) I still have codes
