Electric window and key fob upgrade?

Post by fizbin »

Hey everybody, my '06 Vibe got smashed yesterday and I have a feeling that it is not going to get repaired. I'm super pissed off because the car was not perfect but I knew it and I did a bunch of major repairs to it.

I'm looking for another gen 1 and the prices from a year ago have gone completely and remarkably insane. I don't know if they're selling but the prices are super super high.

I found an 05 that is apparently rust free and it's a base, but it's a super base. Two things that I want it does not have. No key fob and manual windows.

Does anybody around here know if this stuff is wired into the car so you can get junkyard parts and plug them in? If I remember I, the key fob computer is in the passenger side engine bay area somewhere under something. I'm just wondering if the wires are there and you just connected up to the box, or you just get the wiring harness to go with it and they'll plug into something.

I'm also wondering if anybody knows if that's true for electric windows. Yes I'm crazy enough to do this if it's plug and play. Are the connectors in the car and you just have to get the correct door cards and other parts to wire in and bolt in like the window regulators? Or is this all very stuff.

If I know the stuff is generally plug and play, I don't mind getting all the parts and plugging away at it to get the job done. I just don't want manual windows if I can help it and I want the key fob FFS!

My first 03 base didn't have power locks/windows/keyless entry. I thought about trying to add it, but never did. Confused passengers when they had to use a mechanical crank on the window, and why I waited until everyone got out to manually lock all the doors.

I know someone here may have done what you are thinking about, but I can't find the thread. Search is confusing when all you have is frequently used terms to search for.

I don't know of any component in the engine bay.

Don't know if the chassis wiring is in place, but pretty sure its not in the doors/hatch. You'd need
four door lock solenoids
lock solenoid for the hatch, maybe something for the hatch glass
four electric window regulators
lock and window switches all around, maybe interior door trim panels as well
Likely wiring for the interiors of the doors, don't know about the hatch
Keyless entry receiver (it lives behind the upper trim on the rear passenger side, next to the small fixed window) My power-free 03 had the wire, just no receiver
judging from viewtopic.php?p=536670#p536670 you'd need an integration relay, lives in the under dash fuse block)
Key fob(s)
probably something else I'm forgetting.

If your 06 is truly totaled, and you get it back for parts, then you could cannibalize the 06 to upgrade the new to you 05. You'd also want the cruise control stalk, as that is the only part needed to add cruise control to a drive by wire 05-08. If not, then you might see if you can work a deal with OPEworld25 who is parting out an 06, but you've never said where you are.

There also may be some aftermarket kits, there used to be, but I don't know if they're still out there for a 20 year old car
