Rock Auto Brake lines - Replace lines 2007 Vibe

Post by Kelly987 »

Hello, We may need to replace the brake lines in our 2007 pontiac Vibe. Has anyone done this? Is there a video on doing it? Will these parts from Rock Auto be the complete set we would need to do the job and would we need to purchase both? My husband has replaced brake lines on an old Ford truck and a ford car in the past. While working on the brakes and calipers he noticed the lines were pretty rusty or worn. He may have enough materials left from those projects to do this car also but we need to know what other equipment he may need. Will these kits come with all the parts to do the entire job?

Do you also need Brake Fluid and a Brake Bleeder Kit to assist in bleeding your brake system?

I hate replacing brake lines. I think they are the first thing installed on the chassis at the factory, and then tons of other stuff gets installed over them, making it near impossible to get a preformed replacement line in.

The kits look like they have a length of brake line (different diameter for the different kits) and a collection of male tube end fittings. It may be necessary to break up some lines into separate segments to get the whole run in place, so you might need some female couplers to join line segments together, but I can't say for sure, or how many/what size.

having done it before, I assume he has the the skill and tools to cut and flare the tube ends. A bleeder kit might be handy, but not needed if there's a second person available as a pedal pumper.

Since it will involve a lot of time under the car, make sure it is elevated and well secure. Also keep impressionable children out of earshot of the inevitable swearing ;)
