Pontiac says the S/C is not for the AWD Vibe. I believe it has to do with the AWD system not being able to handle the extra torque created by the S/C. Also, the exhaust system is different from the FWD base and GT Vibes. I don't believe anybody makes an aftermarket exhaust for the AWD yet but you could always have a muffler shop swap the factory muffler with a lower restriction one.

you could get a supercharger or 1zz turbo kit but youd still probably break something like the axles but then youd find the weak point so you can upgrade it and go smoke some wrxs.hope you got a fat wallet
look my sniggies, i had a strizz-oke in my brizz-ain okay, you know what im saying. so i cant move all good. but thanks for mentioning that .thank you very much.athf4evr. click here! you know you want to!!!

Yes, I have a satelite AWD model... I saw a posting on MatrixVibe.net that Borla is looking for AWD model to proto-type an exhaust system. The posting was on Jan of 2003, so not sure if they still need it. I emailed David Borla if his company was still interested. I'll keep you guys update with Borla. I will email Thermal too.As for the Supercharger for the 1zz engine, I'm not even sure were the weak point is. It can be either of all of the drive shaft, axle, etc. How would a machanic know where the weak point(s) is/are?

you gotta break a few eggs too make a omlette but if your not willing to sacrifice your car in the name of science then dont. i just dont like telling people stuff cant be done. it can be if your wlling to put forth time money and effort.people said the 2zz couldnt be forced inducted but they were wrong.

According to Toyota and Pontiac it just wasn't designed for too much horsepower. They may just be saying that to cover themselves, but I imagine it's a costly repair to find out.

If you guys start looking around at specs on Cams and things, you can probably find out the differences between the 1zz-ge and the engine in the AWD model. Probably the main difference will be the lift/duration of the cam, and possible a smaller throttle body... but I would bet that the commonality between the 2 engines is remarkably high....Can you disable the rear clutch if it is in danger of getting fried?

it should be the exact same engine. just with worse exhaust routing and additional rotating mass. and no you cant disable the awd unless you start removing parts.

Yeah, back in feb '02 when I got my 'Trix, the dealer said the 2zz engine had a tendency to blow up the AWD system because of torque when it hit lift, hence the combination wasn't available together. Optimism remains high that in a future model year they might be able to beef up the AWD components. I know it involves a differently shaped fuel tank, but I wonder what else would have to change, to throw AWD under my XRS.

Yup everyones right (re: awd system failure) myrecomnedation find an old Celica All-trac and use its componets to beef it up. Another ride w/ a good center diff is the old Mazda 323 GTX. Most these parts can be gottne from rally car builders. See Vermont rally car they are awesome. FYI also new half shafts my need made (no biggy plenty of places make them).I superchared a 97 Subaru SVX and ahd to go this same sort of route. It was worth it and unquie car that scooted (if it was a 5-spd and my kids hadnot out grwon the rear seat I's have kept it).

Yes thats me in the pic. I have to find a 4wd dyno in order to get a dyno. Also Id be interested to see what my 1/4 mile times are. The exhaust is very restrictive and limits some power...needs to be opened up.Hopefully Ill be back on the road bye the end of the week or early next week.
