3 oil filters cut and rated: CarQuest, Purolator, Motorcraft

Post by ultrap »

I recently bought a filter cutting tool and inspected 3 oil filters from my personal fleet. All 3 oil filters were in service for ~5,000 miles. 1 came out as the clear loser! Pretty shocking. How does one get away with putting a small filter element in a large can and pretending all is OK? I will no longer be using that brand. I have 1 unused filter left and it's going in the trash.

Carquest is still a thing? Haven't seen one in 20 years.

Carquest is still around. Years ago, Carquest was bought by Advanced Autp Parts. Because of this Advanced closed or renamed Carquest stores at that time so most Carquest stores where gone, except for the independently own Carquest stores. If you go into a Advanced Auto Parts store, you will see some items as Carquest brands.

Just this past couple weeks, Advanced Auto Parts has said they will be closing ~750 parts stores. These will be mostly on the west coast from what I am told. This should kill off the last of the independent Carquest owned stores. I am sure that Advanced is looking ahead and planning for the government changes coming.
