Sill plate needed (the one with tabs) 2005 Vibe

Post by 20YearOwner »

Hi Y'all!
I'm the original owner of a 2005 Vibe which is in overall excellent condition.

I'm needing to replace the Front Sill Plate on the driver's side - the plate/cover that pops off and that's held in place with its series of plastic tabs.
Two of the tabs have broken off. By "Sill Plate" I'm referring to the inner one, not the sill cover that's held in place on the metal frame by adhesive.
I've not been able to locate this part for sale at all, anywhere I've looked online. Maybe I'm not using the correct part name? If so, what is the proper part name and is there a GM/Pontiac part number.

Also - I tried using JB Weld epoxy on one of the tabs... that experiment failed. I'm guessing this part's material composition isn't something that does well with adhesives, plus there's not much surface area to work with when trying to adhere the tab back in place. I tried to tape one end of the part down to the frame with a piece of black Gorilla tape - that didn't hold up either.

Any suggestions where to find this part, whatever it's called, or how to attach it securely given it has broken tabs?
Thanks!!

Welcome to genvibe!

does it look like the long one in https://www.ebay.com/itm/226024941391
(not recommending that ebay listing, just that it had good pictures)

if so, the toyota part number for that is 67914-02100 and seems to be called "Plate, Front Door Scuff, LH"

A back-up idea is to just screw it in with self-tapping sheet metal screws. Add a dab of black paint or caulk on the head if you want.

I use my Vibe mainly as a work vehicle and usually have a selection of screws and a cordless drill right in the car. So it's a no-brainer for me and I have nearly a dozen such screws holding trim and weatherstripping in the right place. Sometimes I just use a 1 1/4" drywall screw and draw it in flush.

@joatman
Thanks for digging up part info! Yes, the part I'm looking for looks very similar to, or the same as, the long item in the eBay link you shared. Do you happen to know if that's the front driver side sill plate?

@andrewclaus
Good idea about using self-tapping sheet metal screws! I have plenty of metal-working screws and tools. I'll keep that in mind as a Plan B if I can't obtain a replacement sill plate.

Does the part # 11 in the middle diagram refer to the front driver's side plate?
I don't know whether "right" or "left" in such diagrams refers to looking at the car from standing in front of it, or from sitting in the car looking forward.
Can someone clarify? Thanks!!

Here's the link to a source for parts I'm referring to:
