Vibe Falling Apart

Post by GonzagaVIBE_03 »

I have owned my vibe for about a year and a half now and I am starting to have some problems with the quality of the car. I have had to have my radio replace (would not play any cds), I had to have my cigarette lighter replace because it had stopped working (And the new one that they put in just stopped working about a week ago), I have a huge crack on the back wall of my vibe (where the plastic is, I had a box back there and it slid around and put a 1 foot crack in the back. Also, I have some many paint chips and scratches it is almost unbearable. I probably find a new scratch or chip every week. I have found that the Vibe is rather reliable, but the overall quality of the products used in the Vibe does not seem to be at the level it should be. It has become frustrating and frankly, I am starting to look around for another car. Has anyone else had a vibe plagued with problems?

Well my guess is the lighter problem may be a screwy relay or fuse, or possibly a short. If it ws replaced and blew again, then the lighter isn't likely to be the problem. As to the radio being replaced, it couldv'e been a piece of dust or dirt on the lens...may not have been a defective radio. Who knows. As to a crack in the hatch door, well, the interior IS plastic, that aside, if you put cargo back there and don't secure it, you run the risk of something like that happening. It's unfortunate, but it comes with owning an interior made of plastic. Finally, the paint. This is one problem that, by far, is not exclusive to you. By using search and putting in "paint", you'll discover there are dozens of threads already discussing this issue: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6311 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5132 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6236 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5819 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=4665 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5894 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=4657 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=3787 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=3876 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2834 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2877 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=2035 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=791 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=354 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=390YES, those are all threads related to paint concerns. But NSimkins, one of our administrators, is in touch with Jeff Strausser, Vibe Brand Quality Manager, and is actively discussing the concern with him. He has been keeping us up to speed on his discussions with Jeff in the following thread: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6124Hope we've answered your questions, and addressed your concerns. I've had all the problems you have had except the lighter problem (must be a wire pinched) but i still love my vibe.

When I read your post, I thought that you were talking about my vibe. Minus the cracking incident, I have had the same problems, plus an unexplained squeeking from the rear axle that, after four attempts, they still couldn't remedy. Also, add to that a defective remote keyless entry, and you have my car. I am VERY VERY disappointed that after nearly a century of making cars, we (Americans) still don't get it. Stop adding new "innovations" and concentrate on making a higher quality car. I love the cars design, styling and performance, but I would quickly sacrafice a lot of this for higher quality workmanship.

I have paint issues also but my windshield has 2 cracks from rocks already. The dealer never fixed my squeaky dash so I will have to someday. They did replace my side molding so I am very happy about that! I have rattles and buzzes every where. Much of this is my fault because of the stiff(Hotchkis) suspencion and the Magnaflow exhaust. Live with it!

innovations?...compared to most of gm's other models, the vibe is (I hate to say)Flintstonish. You want innovation, look at a 2004 grand prix or the new malibu.Don't get me wrong,I LOVE my vibe, but I do think it could be a little refined, less plastic to rattle, more options to choose from...etc....ramble....
