An intro, and a question....

Post by JWood »

Thank you for the add. I live out in Oregon in the foothills of the Cascades. And a drive to a part store, let alone a Toyota dealership (which will bring me to my question in a bit).

Anyhow, I have an 06 Vibe we bought for my oldest kid 7 years ago with 135k on her. She has 194 now. To make a long story shorter, my wife and I upgraded the cars for the 2 kids. In order to do so, I sold my truck and planned to take over ownership of the Vibe and an 02 4runner. And both have been getting a lot of work done on them lately. The Vibe has been getting me to and from work on the cheap.

I recently had to use the heater due to a cold snap and all it does is blow cold air. Temp gauge always just a hair below middle, with no overheating. I replaced the radiator, serp belt, and t-stat last year. But I installed an aftermarket t-stat, and I am suspecting it has stuck open. I flushed the heater core with no helpful results. If anyone has other suggestions, I would be grateful to hear them.

I cannot definitely find an oem thermostat, searching either an 06 Matrix or Vibe. Can anyone tell me a part number or a link to buy? I get multiple results when I search online. Help please!

I have a blower motor resistor coming but I don't think that's my problem...??

Thanks again for the add to the forum, and all of the helpful stuff I have already seen on here.

Welcome! I don't have first hand expirience with your issue but I did some searching and it looks like the part is "GM 88974571 Thermostat,Engine Coolant" but it is discountinued: https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-t ... 74571.html

You could use that part to search on it and I found one on Ebay that is a Tama Brand: https://www.ebay.com/itm/225282879788. The part number matches but I could not confirm if the oem is a Tama. Since it is a Toyota engine, that makes sense but just could not confirm. Hope that helps and keep us posted on the repair!
