Piaa Replacement Bulbs

Post by engine1 »

I never hear any one mention them! Are they not widely available? Too expensive?

It is because the Silverstar's are the same quailty and half the price. It was my first mod, and i love them.

I don't know if I would put them in the same class as Piaa, but I think anything is better than the standard 60/55 watt OE. Although you can't get a Phillips or GE bulb that puts out more wattage, its just a different gas that produces light in a different spectrum! I have a set of Piaa's in my wifes car, same 135/115 wattage for five years no burnt bulbs yet, not even the cheapest bulbs have ever lasted me that long, that sold me on Piaa!

Actually, if Watts is wat you want, Phillips does have some pretty good stuff, up to 130 in an H4 from: http://www.powerbulbs.com/rallye.htm, ~US$30/pair and free shipping from Old Blighty to boot!If I have any problems with my Silverstars (3rd brand of aftermarket bulbs I've tried) I think I'll switch to them. I've had a pair in my wife's Buick for almost 2 years.

Yeah, pretty much agree with the "Too much for what you get".. The silverstars are a better deal, and from what i've heard, the Silverstars last a lot longer than the PIAAs..I'd be careful getting bulbs with a higher wattage than the stocks... If you get bulbs with really high wattage, you should change out the stock wiring for something with a relay...

I also heard of a guy who went to his dealer for warranty on his damaged foglight housings. Turned out they were melted due to the aircraft landing light bulbs he had installed!

I didn'y know Phillips had the 130's avail. good to know!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------I'd be careful getting bulbs with a higher wattage than the stocks... If you get bulbs with really high wattage, you should change out the stock wiring for something with a relay...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Piaa bulbs draw the same amount of power as the 65/55 but use a larger filament and different gases to produce more light without over powering the electrical connections. I did put a World Light product in my wifes car 9004 100/80 watts and it did cook the plug for the light, so I learned that you get what you pay for. But I will try the silverstars when the wifes car needs changing!

I run PIAA's in both my Vibe and GA. Wont buy another brand. I have the purplish/blue HID ones in my Vibe, and they look just like the new HID, and just about as bright. I have the Super whites in the GA and they shine better than the silverstars. Plus, they blow out, I get free ones.
