How many more miles can i get out of a GT after the fuel light comes on. If this has already been discussed, i would like to thank Nova right now for putting up the link. If not, thanks for the info.
You can go a long ways after it goes on. I personally have gone over 40 miles with about a gallon still in the tank according to what I put in afterwards. I ran her down to about 2/10 of a gallon once but I did not pay attention to the miles I put on after the light came on.Jim

The light comes on with about 2.5 gallons left in the tank. The number of miles vary depending on what mileage you are getting. I personally do not go more than 50 after the light comes on.
Not a good idea -- in most cars the electric fuel pump is located on the bottom of the gas tank. The pump depends on having some quanity of gas in the tank to cool the pump. Running the tank too low can cause the fuel pump to overheat and seize. Replacement requires dropping the fuel tank -- I know on a Camaro, it's about a $700 job. I knew a couple of people that had this happen with fairly new cars -- it was covered under warranty but they were warned not to let it happen again.

Not sure...but I know that light NEVER comes on with the same amount of gas. I've made a few long distance trips.. (800 miles each way), and the light will come on with about 2.6g left...or 1.4...whichever it prefers. Generally, I can push my GT to about 340 miles at about 30 mpg.I've kept pretty detailed records of my gas mileage.. If anyone wants to see what data I have, I can post it online. I've kept the following:* Miles per tank* Gallons per fill * Price per gallonAnd computed* Total milage* MPG* Average cost per fillI seem to be floating between 27 and 33 MPG over the last few months. There is DEFINTE differences in the gas you use, too.. On the long trip, sometimes switching between Amoco and Shell seems to make a huge difference..

quote:Which of the 2 did you get better mileage with?JimI think it was the shell...it was a station somewhere in Virginia.. I haven't had the same luck since.. XD Usually i'm running with AC, cruise control around 75. And yeah, I watch the octanes.. I don't think i've put in under 93 yet... Mostly because most places go 87, 89, 93... At least those i've run into..

i think there would still be around 10 litre or 2 gallon of gas, when the light first come up.so, depends on how you drive...

I've driven 45 miles after the light came on before buying gas before because I wanted to buy shell gas.I get the best milage in my car with Phillips 66 Premium and Shell Premium (both 93 octane in Illinios, indiana, and ohio, where I usually drive my long trips). I don't use Amoco anymore, the car just doesn't seem to run well with it. I have records on all 46 on my gas purchases and would be willing to put it online somewhere also if anyone is interested in it.
You are brave people!!! I always get gas right away. I had a car that the gas gauge lied to me all the time!!! Therefore I don't trust the fuel light. I call it the "Hey Stupid" Light and get gas right away. I guess I am just paranoid. I had a dream the other night that I ran out of gas and went into labor in the middle of nowhere. What a nightmare. WIth my Baby due in mere weeks, the car always has at least half a tank.... That is one dream that I don't want to come true....
