I got around to making a mount for a 5.6" lcd screen that screws into the pocket under the radio in a Metra dash kit & installing a DVD/SVCD/VCD/Mp3/TV-tuner player under the passanger seat. Here's a link to a player similar to the one I got: http://www.luxmobiltech.com/pages/ldvd108tv.htmI put the player under the passanger seat, ran the audio, video, power, and remote sensor wires up under the center armrest, then under the carpet to the dash. I spliced into the power going to the cig. lighter in center arm rest bin. I put the remote sensor in the bin under the shifter, and keep the remote in there also.I cut a piece of wood that would fit in the little bin under the stereo (I have the Metra radio kit), drilled a hole in the end large enough for a nut to fit into which I epoxied in place, then painted it black and screwed it into the bin under the stereo. I then epoxied a bolt into the mount for the LCD screen. The piece of wood that I screwed into the bin is a little recessed in there so it's not real obvious. The screen has a small DIN plug/harness that I have coming in through the bin, so I can screw the LCD mount on, slide the screen onto the mount, and plug in the DIN plug and it's ready to go. (and remove for safe keeping) The player can play VCD's which you can make on your computer with a CD burner. On the screen below is a VCD I made of my 1 year old eating some SpagettiO's. The LCD screen is about the cheapest 5.6" I could find on Ebay, but it seems to be fairly sharp & clear.See Ya,Carl [Modified by cohocarl, 6:44 PM 9/22/2002]

quote:now you can watch TV5 morning news on your way in to work. Did you find that video sytem on ebay? Ya, I'm not quite sure what's on at 5:30am, but I'll be able to catch up on the soaps on my way home!! (not!!)quote:do u have a link for the tuner? And could u take a pic behind the lcd so i can see how u mounted it?The tuner is built into the DVD deck. I got this one on Ebay for $149. There's quite a few different models, some with the tv tuner built in, and some without. I paid $88 for the screen, but I see you can get it now for $79. I'll try and get some more pics up tomorrow. I was busy today watching Mark Martin come in 2nd in today's NASCAR race. Later,Carl

quote:Hope you have an alarm. That system looks like it would be very tempting. Hate to see more sad stories on this forum. I don't plan on leaving the screen on all the time, and the dvd player is under the passanger seat out of view, but you never know. I do have an alarm sitting in the box on my computer desk. Maybe I should install it tonight.....

thats sweet man, i was thinkin about squeezing one of these above my radio, but i dont know its worth its. it goes for $230 Im not sure getting a screen thats not removeable is too smart where i live.

LocDog and all:I'm interested in these LCD setups. I'm a geek but an idiot with stereos and cars - heck, the Vibe I'm picking up in 7 hours (not that I'm counting) is my first new car ever and the first car I've owned in 9 years. When I go, I go big. Now, my dream is this: install an LCD like the one you've pictured above, LocDog, and hook that up to a mini pc like this one: http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/computin ... htmlReason? (Does there have to be one?) I'm a tech consultant and I drive around to client's offices all the time, and I'd like to be able to easily access my stuff for them. With the current proliferation of wireless WANs in a variety of forms (I won't go into the details of the alternatives here) I could possibly work very effectively out of my car (when pulled over to the side of the road of course). Also, I'm an MP3 nut and want to have around 20GB worth of music available and easy to organize and play. I know of the Kenwood system but when you work with computers every day, you realize it's pretty specialized, closed-system and really overpriced for what you get. That means I need the audio from the minipc hooked up to the stereo head unit, whatever that may be.So, I implore of you car electronics mod experts out there - is this a pipe dream? Any hints, feedback and the like? TIA!PS: I just found this link which, after I finish reading it, will be my launching off point: http://www.via.com.tw/en/VInternet/Pete ... wer.pdfPPS: Which then took me here... http://www.thisstrife.com/carproject/
