RIP '06 Neptune

Sad to post that our vibe is gone to the junk yard after being rear ended and then slammed into a SUV. This was our first car and we're pretty upset that it's gone.

350,000kms on it and still driving like new!! Not sure what our car plans are, but a newer Vibe is not out of the question. I found a '09 GT with 177kms for 7k that I might take a look at.

Finally, thanks to everyone on the forum for all the help over the years. TBH I've learned most of my "mechanic" skills and knowledge from this Vibe site.

Sad to see what happened to you & the Vibe. Hopefully no one was hurt and you get a fair compensation $$$ that you can put towards a newer Vibe. I second the motion (idea/suggestion) to get the 2009 Vibe Gt you are considering. It will be a bit quicker (2.4l vs 1.8l) but not have the hatch glass open. Mileage may suffer very slightly. Did you have your Vibe RustCheck or Krown applied annually? That seems to be a big thing up there in Canada and curious how much of a difference it makes once a vehicle is 10+ years old. Keep us posted here as to what you end up getting.

I'm sorry to hear about the car being destroyed. If it's allowable, you might want to look in the southern US for vibes without salt damage as well.

If you're on the Facebook page, there are quite a few other Canadian members who might be able to help you in your search. In fact, I just got done hanging out with 7-8 of them over the weekend here in PA.

Wouldn't the current exchange rate be beneficial to importation? You'd be spending about 1/3 less on the vehicle, so that could help with the importation. What additional fees are incurred during import? Since it is a vehicle that was also sold in Canada, I wouldn't suspect anything more than the typical duties/taxes you'd pay for the value of the vehicle anyways.

2009 GT with 177000kms (110k miles) --> $5500 CAD

Should the high mileage on the GT be concerning? It's half of what my other vibe had and it still had lots of life left in it

The downfall of the 09 GT is that the 2.4L engines burn oil. It may not now, but it will eventually. Outside of that, the extra pep it provides is nice. You'd probably be looking at around 27-28mpg on it vs. closer to 30+ on the base 1.8L.

If you want less worry on the engine and have the rear glass open, then you'd have to go back to an '08. My '07 was bought with 135,000 miles (217 kilometers) for $4026 US after TTL, three years ago. No real troubles since then; replaced plugs, fluids, and looking at brakes and starter now. As long as you're under 150,000 miles (241,000 kilometers), you'll get a LOT of running out of the car. If you get an 07 or 08, you could even use parts from the old vehicle, if you have access to it.
