I just got an 04 vibe (love it) but the left light behind the vent contol knob is burnt out. I read this thread on dash board removal.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9977Not that I need to remove the whole dash but I can't figure how to get the lower panel out. I pulled the middle nob out, removed the screw pryed the top part off but how do you get the bottom to come off. I bought my Vibe used and the ac power panel was loose and i think the dealer glued it, is that the likely problem or did I miss something?I managed to weasel the left knob out of the way so I could get some pliers on the light bulb. Then I squished it. Doh. But i did manage to rotate it only to have the crushed bulb fall beind the consol never to be seen again. I guess I gotta go to the dealler since I can't take the old bulb to autozone now. Does anyone know what kind of bulb it is?How to fully free the climate control panel? How to reinstall the new bulb if I get one? Thanks

There is a thread about it here: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=17244The bulb #'s: GM 88970578 and Toyota 90072-02005. The going rate at GM was close to $10 per bulb a couple years ago. I really don't have an answer on how to actually fully free that climate control. I ended up having my heater controls so jacked up the only thing I could do was buy a whole new piece. So, to get the old one out, I just intentionally broke it in every way possible to get the thing out. You'll need to get access to the rear of the controls to replace the bulbs. You have to push them in and twist from the back side to get them fully seated in the socket. I tried and tried to replace the bulbs with the heater controls still in place since I couldn't get them out but I had no luck. That whole operation just sucked! Good luck.

I've been too lazy to look into fixing the light, but I've found a light 'tap' between the vent selector, and the fan speed selector makes the light on our '03 turn back on.

Well I got the part from the dealer $17, wish I would have gone to toyota. After reading ragingfish's topic on removing the center consol it really wasn't hard. I took off the upper radio trim, removed the radio (mine is stock baby) which gave me all the hand room I needed and room for a mirror. But for convieniece I removed the lower trim by removing the center screw and poping the ring that goes around the shifter. I didn't bother undooing all the electrical connector as the whole piece just sets to the side. Then I removed the ash reciever and that bottom most wrap arround panel. Because I droped my 17 dollar bulb, but I found it and my old bulb. With all that stuff out of the way I popped it in and had everything back together in 10 minutes. Too easy. Now the AC power trim panel is loose so it looks like I'll take it off again so I can glue it or something. And when I cranked my sterio today my front left speaker popped. It still playes but is definatly noticable. You can fade it all the way to the left and right and its louder all the way to the right even in the driver's seat. Oh well more projects.I'll post pics later if you really want them.
Both climate control bulbs were burned out in my ‘06 Matrix. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find a solid answer as to how to change these bulbs. So, I figured it out on my own. I had to go to the Toyota dealer to get the bulbs. Part no. 84999-10090. They were $12.56 plus tax. What I did, was pull out the trim around the radio and pull out the plugs connecting the clock, recirculate button, etc until you can freely remove the trim piece. Then you remove the radio. There are four 10mm bolts holding the radio in. When you remove these, put tape in the socket so that you don’t lose a bolt like I did. When you drop something in there, you’ll probably never get it back. Once you remove the bolts, pull the plugs on the radio and set the radio to the side. Then pull out the middle of the three climate control knobs and remove the Phillips screw. Then use a skinny flathead screwdriver to remove the trim around the shift knob and power outlets. Once you get the trim popped up, pull it towards yourself to make working on the bulbs easier. The bulbs are housed in a white fixture. To pull this out a little for convenience, push down on a white tab on either side and pull it out. The bulbs come out with a flathead screwdriver, but be careful! I lost one doing it myself. After twisting the bulb free, use gorilla tape to get the bulb out. After getting the new bulbs, I got a square dowel for $0.79 at Hobby Lobby here in Chicago. Then I cut 3 inches off the dowel and drilled 2 small holes in it through the whole thing. Then put epoxy on the bulb base and attach it to the dowel and let it dry for 24 hours. This makes it MUCH easier to put the bulb in without dropping it. Then just put the bulbs in and put the dash back together and you’re done! Good luck!
