Silly Engine question

Post by tercelerator »

For a 2006 2WD base automatic, you can usually tell which 1.8 you have by checking the eighth digit of the VIN and the emissions label under the hood. The “8” code points to the standard 1.8L MFI DOHC, while the “L” identifier refers to the variant with slightly different emissions equipment. The intake manifold gasket will match whichever code shows up on the VIN and the under-hood sticker.

I’m French and currently traveling, so I’ve had to look up parts and codes remotely a few times myself. While I’m away, I even get a few things from home delivered to me through this site:

But for your engine, the VIN digit and the emissions label are really the easiest way to confirm which 1.8 you’ve got.

The letter corresponds to the 8th digit of your VIN (from viewtopic.php?t=604 )

Your base 2006 automatic has the Toyota 1ZZ engine, which is "8 1.8L MFI DOHC"

The GT with 6 speed manual is the 2ZZ engine, "L 1.8LMFI DOHC"

i don't know the VIN/engine codes for the 09-10 Vibes

It is an "8" on the 2zr engine for the 09/10 so it looks like the GTs get the L
