Rear speaker upgrade

im looking to replace the stock rear speakers in my 2004 pontiac vibe, I already got a 12 inch subwoofer, specifically the alpine sws-12d4
I have a boss audio amp in there also, I didnt know if I should just get tweeters because the front speakers got messed up in the wiring and dont work which im glad because when they did work it was nothing but distortion. the speakers do work i just dont have them wired at the moment and im planning on leaving them unwired. Im basically just looking for audio no bass because, well, i already have a subwoofer in my car. I also have a after-market radio head. Im not able to say what it is at the moment cause im stuck in a military school. When i first installed the sub the car sounded amazing! And now im really missing it since i havent seen it in 3-4 months the rear speakers do create more audio then bass which im glad. but I also need help understanding what settings on my amp i should use to not blow my subwoofer.... thanks! also! the amp is the boss audio r1100.

I've been really happy with the JBL system I got for the doors in my car. I would recommend buying something with a driver, tweeter, and crossover so you can make sure your mids and highs get the same love your bass will. Check my build thread to see the stuff I put in, but that was in 2015 so I'll bet there's different options available now.

I have the stock speakers in my doors and have my radio (aftermarket) set to not pass them any frequencies lower than 120k. That keeps them from trying to reproduce lots of bass, which they aren't good at.

I have a 10" sub and amp in the hatch area that handles all the 'bump' I need : - )

I did add tweeters in the plastic triangles that cover the mirror attaching bolts. Between the tweeters and the sub, my 4 door speakers really only have to fill in the mid range, which is what they are good for.

It really depends on the head unit, some will have a setting that allows you to choose a cut off frequency between the subwoofer and the speakers. Audio tuning is a bit of a deep pool to jump into. The best thing you can do, in my opinion, is make sure you have a capable system that is well rounded and can handle highs and mids really well and bass OK. This allows you to worry less about tuning the sound and allows you to get better sound at lower volumes.

Exactly. There is a menu selection for cutting of the lows to the door speakers and another setting for cutting off the highs to the subwoofer outputs.

also looking to replace subwoofer amp as its a really bad amp that my friend says. hes got 2 pioneer 12 inch subs and a kicker amp in a corolla with all aftermarket speakers.

If you're looking to power all 4 doors and a sub, then you should be looking at a 5 channel amp rather than having to wire two separate amps. So much easier to install!
