drivers side window

Post by lordyogi »

yeah so when i was putting my drivers side window up tonight it seemed to come out of track, when i showed my roommate when i got home i put it down and figured if i held it back onto the track it would be fine and go up. it started to go up then bound and shattered my drivers side window. i would have had glass all over my hands and car and my roommate probably would have had cuts all over his bare feet if it weren't for my tint.but i was wondering has this happened to anyone elses car?yogi

most definitely not!!!!though i suspect it is made of safety glass and would not have shattered, regardless of tint...that's crazy!!!

sounds like your window came of the track and when you rolled it up you forced it against the metal in the door. I saw this happen saturday at work when a repairman was working on a GMC truck.bummer. should be replaced under warranty

took it in today, when they pulled off the door panel you could see that one of the window mounts on the main track that the window motor is attached to was off and sitting in the bottom of the door. what happened was the nut fell off the bolt holding the window mount onto the bar, and it broke and was pushing just right and it shattered. they are fixing it under warranty, but until they fix it i will just floss around in the jaguar rental car i got.yogi

Geez, I want to go to that dealership. When they keep my car, they just look at me like, "Okay, find a ride."

Now for the REAL test: Will they spring for tinting the replacement glass?

wasnt the dealer that rented me the jag, all of the dealers rentals were out so, damn, i had to go through enterprise and the dealer picked up most of the cost so it was only $20 for the day. as for the tint i will have to talk to the tinting place that i had it done at, it shouldnt be too much even if i have to pay, it was only 140 for all 7 windows so one shouldnt be much more than 20 bucks.yogi

I've been having issues with my windows since I got the car. Both front windows seem to shake a lot more than any other windows I've seen on any other cars when they are opened even a small crack. Sometimes if they have been wet, they will clunk once or twice when I put them up or down, but mostly it's just the shaking. They work correctly and everything, but I don't have a lot of confidence they won't just break one day. I don't know if it's the track that's messed up or what, but they shake a lot.

Do you have power or manual windows? I have manual, and it seems like there's some slack in them, like some extra play in the window regulator.

mine shook bad when i had them part way down, i think the real issue with it coming off was how loud i have my bass in my car causing vibration on the bolt close to the speaker cone and loosening the nut on the bolt, along with the up and down of the power windows everyday it fell off and broke. thats why i asked for them to put loc-tite on the bolts when they put everything back together.yogi

I have power windows. They shake whether they are open a half inch or almost all the way. I used to be careful and not open them when I was going really fast or it was really windy, but I stopped being careful now. I'd rather they break under warranty rather than last until just after.

I would pay $20 for a Jag for a day. I got stuck with a granny car from the dealer when I took my car in to get the rear wiper fixed. Granted the Granny car was free, but I felt like I was driving a land barge. When i took the Vibe in another time to get the interior map light fixed it was right after we had bought my husband a truck from the same dealer. Ironically enough--they loaned me the car that I had traded for his truck. Talk about a bummer. I was tired of that car--that's why we got rid of it. It was the craziest thing that had ever happened to me concerning a car. I miss my warranty..... It just ran out....

i think you have until you factory warranty runs out to opt for the extension....and the later you do it the more $ it costs.I the 100,000 mile w/ $100 deductable about a month after i picked up the vibe. it does make me feel warm inside considering i have 27,000 miles in 15months so far.

Right. Dealer told me once factory warranty expires, GM will not allow an extended warranty to be tacked on.I got the 100,000 mile EW. Many make fun of me for it. But when stuff goes wrong, and I don't have to pay for a (possible) major repair, I'll be the one laughing. My mom's GP just had to have a new water pump, new radiator, and new alternator installed in the last 4 months -- all under their extended warranty. Would've been well over $1500 without it...

quote:If someone runs out fo their warranty, sometimes the dealer's offer their own warranty and they might swing something, as long as you are not over too much, say 5,000 miles or something. ( info for anyone out there) Right! They call this "goodwill warranty." If you can prove (usually by taking your car to the same dealership) that your car has been maintained according to the recommended schedule, they will usually let these repairs go as warranty, because it was so close. Also, if your dealership put on some miles during "test drives" to diagnose a problem or whatever, these will "extend" your warranty. However, they really don't keep track of how many test drive miles they put on, so it's sort of a "good faith" situation.HTH!
