A/C and re-circulation button not working

Post by WhiteRabbit »

Ok so here is my situation I have so how broke the recirc and A/C on off switch, they will not stay down when pressed. when I press them and hold them they work, I let go and they come back up and turn off. does any one have a diagram that shows what prog goes to what on the harness that plugs in to the module. using my multi meter I have found that the looking at the side that the pins are exposed that the first and second are a complete circuit when the A/C button is held down, the 6th and 7th pins are a complete circuit when the recirc button is held down. but what do all the other pins go to/do. until I can get a new module I was thinking of rigging up two toggle switches to complete those circuits but idk if it would work. any help would be great I have seen schematics on line but I can not read those things to save my life but the pics of the plugs with the pins numbered and what they are connected to help a lot. Thanks friends.

Start with the obvious first: is your vent control knob set to either of the two defroster positions? If so, the re-circ button is disabled by design; it will release from re-circ when you turn the vent knob to defrost and won't let you push it back in.

If your A/C switch does not stay lit when pressed, then it is probably a bad switch.

yes I have actually taken the whole module apart and found that it was a problem with the buttons them selves. the latching mechanism is broken on both buttons so I ordered a used module online.... that is the good news the bad is the part just got in today and it looks like the same unit, seems to have the same numbers stamped on them but when hooked up only the A/C button lights up and works. I thought it was broken but upon closer inspection I have found that the original had a pin set up of 7 pins on one side and 2 ins on the other side, the new one has 6 pins on one side and 3 on the other side ROTFL my luck I guess so now I got to message the guy on ebay and see if I can return it.

as a side note the plastic clip that holds the wire that kicks the recirculate button off when you set it to defrost was also broken so it has been doing nothing for the past umpteen years and I never knew it lol I guess some would call it broken I call it "modified" lol

So can you transfer the guts (circuit board) from your old controller to the new one that has good buttons?

That's what I am going to do in the worse case, I ordered a new new one from JCW, AC-Delco brand so I am hoping this one is right, as far as the one I got from ebay, he refunded me and told me too keep the part, Im looking up the diagram and will use multi meter to check its connections and if all is well I will sell it.
