New owner of a 2008 Pontiac Vibe base

Post by Tezco94 »

Just bought a 2008 Pontiac Vibe last week, it has 96,000 miles on it. Happened to stumble upon this forum and decided to join, looks to me like this forum is a god send, if i ever have a problem or question about my Vibe. Somethings I've done already to my vibe is change the cabin air filter (old one was filled with leaves) and also took out the blower motor which was also filled with leaves. Had a weird screeching noise when i put my fan on low speed. Ended up lubing the bearing in the blower motor, plus taking all the leaf debris out seemed to work. Also today took it to a shop and had my passenger side output shaft seal replaced (was leaking and dealer wouldn't fix it -_-) besides that i'm loving my new (to me) Vibe.

One more thing, i'd like to share why i ultimately decided to look for a vibe and subsequently buy one. I work at a Franchise auto parts shop as a driver, and my boss had three Vibes in his fleet, sadly two were totaled, one this year (2007 base model) and the other last year (2010 base model). The third one he has had since he bought it brand new at the end of 2006 (It's a 2007 base). Besides being very reliable cars, the surviving vibe of the fleet over the course of it's life has 615,000 miles on it and is still running like a champ! The secret to the long life my boss says is a monthly oil change. We put roughly 150 miles on the car a day, five days a week, times that by 4 weeks in a month and that's ~ 3000 miles per month. Just wanted to share that with you guys. I also would like to know how many miles your vibe/matrix has on it and if you had any issues with it. Any common issues i should know about? Also are there any things i should do to my Vibe maintenance wise? She is approaching 100K miles, she currently has fresh transmission fluid and filter, fresh coolant, and fresh oil and filter. Would love to hear any suggestions. Well that's all for now, I am so glad i found this forum and I'm happy to finally be a Vibe owner!

Welcome to the Genvibe club! Just keep changing oil and transmission fluid at regular intervals and these things go forever. Only a severe accident can kill them.

I drive an 09 Base with 40,000km/25,000 miles on it. Prior to that I drove an 06 Matrix Base with 275,000 km which was recently written off after an accident. I looked at other cars but I eventually ended up with another Vibe/Trix!

Welcome to GenVibe! The mileage on the fleet Vibe is absolutely amazing, though I dare say not surprising :D! Post a picture of your Vibe when you get a chance, and heck, the fleet one too while you're at it!

Welcome and congrats Tezco94!
It seems the important stuff has already been done. Make sure they used the correct Toyota Type IV or equivalent in you tranny. By the way, there is no filter in the tranny. I suggest flushing the cooling system and again use Toyota or equivalent coolant. (I have to do that myself). Change spark plugs. Flush the brake fluid, change the out the power steering fluid. None of that is urgent. You can do it at your convenience.
Just drive and enjoy that thing. It is one of those cars that serve you rather than the other way around.

Cool, park them side by side and post a picture of the two together right here:

That thread needs some fresh entries.

Here are some photos of my 2008 Vibe Moonstone color with 96,000 miles with moon and tunes package, as well as the Vibe at my job which has 615,000 miles on it and it still drive strong. Of course the odometer only goes to 299,999 but we had one of our mechanic friends hook a tool up to the OBD II port to check the real mileage.

Here's the link to the gallery of photos of the two Vibes, I guess my pictures are too large to fit in attachments here.
