Touch-up paint at auto parts store?

Post by Kari »

I know you can buy GM touch-up paint at stores like Auto Zone and Advance...but I was curious as to if anyone knows which paint code I need to be able to find it? The short one that's on the inside of my glove box, or the longer one (I think it started with a W) that I saw in another thread? The last time I went to AZ I could only find the dark red metallic, the color of my grandparents' Lumina. I'm going to try some of the other stores tomorrow...has anyone ever tried this route to find the touch-up paint?

yes, that's the thread I was saying I got the longer code from. However, what I am asking, is which one is printed on the bottle, if either.

I did. They didn't even know if they had it in stock. Kind of hemmed and hawed around...

Time for me to be a jerk again and say: The code is located at the bottom left of the sticker on the glove box door:Satellite = 13U/WA891K Shadow = 15U/WA914K Abyss = 19U/WA546G Frosty = 40U/WA9737 Salsa = 44U/WA721H Envy = 46U/WA915K Neptune = 62U/WA916K Lava = 81U/WA917K

I said this earlier because someone pointed me at the same thread I was talking about...I DID search. I said that in the first post. I am asking which number is on the BOTTLE of the paint! Can someone just please look at their bottle of touch-up paint and tell me which number is on it, if any, so I'll know what I'm looking for or if I'll even be able to identify it? That's all I'm asking.

Yes, but what I am asking is which one is on the bottle. Is it the long one or the short one? I'm guessing the long one is the actual part number for the bottle of paint?

Actually, both should be on bottles from the dealership. They probably also have a thire "part number" but I don't know those. Aftermarket paint will have different number but the ones I posted above will help you find the correct one in an auto parts store.

Okay. Thank you. That's the answer I've been looking for.Would the actual GM-labeled touch-up paint still be "aftermarket"? It's the same bottle as what came with my mom's Buick Somerset and my dad's GMC truck years ago. (I think this was something the dealership chose to do...both were purchased at the same dealership, and my grandpa was the service mgr so maybe that has something to do with it, too.) It's a skinny bottle with a nail-polish type brush, with a GM label and a black lid.

Okay. That's what I found at AutoZone. They were just out of every color except Garnet red. I'll let everybody know if I find some at any other store...it might be cheaper than the dealership. I plan to check on that today as well. I'm taking it in to get my map light bulb replaced and they said they'd see if they have my paint.
