Backup lights switched out

Post by Triton »

For a while now, I have noticed that the stock backup light bulbs give off a yellowish light kind of like the stock headlights. Well I have already switced my headlights and foglights to Silverstars and I have been looking for a replacement for the backup lights. I found them yesterday at Auto Zone. The bulbs are Super White and made by APC. They are bulb #7440 and they were $5.99 for the pair. I took some before and after pics to compare the lights. The bulbs have a blue color to them which actually looks kind of cool when they are not on as you can see. They go with the whole color scheme of my Vibe very well. I'm pretty happy with them. Very cool! Let us know what you think of the lighting at night when you use them.

I tried to see a difference this morning, but it was a little too bright at 7:10 a.m. this morning to see if there was a major difference. I will post an update when I can use them when it is truly dark outside. Even if they aren't a lot brighter, the color change is worth it.

The hardest part about it was crawling under the front bumper to change the foglights and under the rear bumper to change the back up lights. Very easy mod. Thanks for the compliment.

Thanks drunkenvibe. I don't think I have too many decals to make it look like a ricer. Besides the decals you see there, I have only two others on my rear side windows. The old GenVibe.com logo (I will be switching those today with the new logo) and a Hotchkis Tuning decal. You can kind of see them in the pic. And then I have my Vibe GT windshield decal too.

Well, I tried the lights out this morning and they were pretty good. Not a whole lot brighter than the stock bulbs, but definitely whiter.

Triton--I really like that look. I like those ventshades on the windows, too. You may have inspired me to do both of these mods!

Are they the double-sided tape kind or the snap-in-place kind like http://www.weathertech.com has?

I picked up a set of the Vent Visors from my local dealer and found that they were real easy to install by myself. They came with some sort of super glued double sided tape and some alcahol swabs to clean the surface of the application area.I think it only took me about 1/2 an hour to do all four doors. The tricky part is 'getting it right the first time' as the tape is so sticky that you need to exert a lot of force to pull it off if you mess up, so do a trial fit first before sticking it in place. It was also stated that the more times you have to pull off and reset, the less sticky the tape gets. I'm guessing that this would apply to the vent visor from where ever you order it.And finally, It was highly recomended to avoid Car Washes with highpowered spray guns as the psi force from one of those can rip the vent visor right off the door. This application method also applied to the rear bumper protector which I was also able to do easily. If you have anymore question about this just let me know.

i go through the car wash all the time with them, it's fine. think about it, if you can drive 80mph on the highway with them, why couldn't you high pressure spray them??

Well, a high pressure spray is a concentrated force...80mph winds are very broad, and hit the visor on its entire length...A high pressure spray exerts more concentrated force, directly on the locatons around the mounts...But I agree, you probably would not have a problem. That is most likely in there as a CYA thing...

Yes, they are double sided tape. It is a 3M tape product and is very strong. But yes, be very sure they are where you want them when putting them on. I had to remove one of them and it was a pain. I put a few marks in the black tape surrounding the window. They are covered by the Ventvisors though so I'm not worried about the marks at all.

I believe they do. I think I seen some on Ebay. Go to this link: http://search-desc.ebay.com/search/sear ... sicSearch= My bulbs give off a blueish white light. I'll have to take some at night so you can see them. A lot better than the stock yellowish light.
