Well...the title says it all. It was time for my 18,000 mile oil change so made the switch to Mobil 1 synthetic. I need this car to last me at least another 5 years (to finally pay down all of the negative equity from my last 2 cars.) so I figured I would give her the good stuff. Hopefully, it will be worth it and do me some good. I also get to pick up my new K&N drop in air filter tommorrow. Cool Beans.Jim

Eventually, I will buy a CAI. As far as short RAMs go....don't they have the drawback of sucking warm air which negates the benefit (other than the larger intake tube and the sound) of any HP gain? If the air temp didn't really make a difference, I would probably go with a short RAM. With the amount of miles I put on my Vibe, I will have to change/clean (depending on what I have ) the air filter 3 times a year. With a CAI, thats a bit more difficult than with the short RAM.Jim

Well....it's kinda' too late. I already had a place here order me one and it will be here tommorrow. I had to buy a new air filter anyways (up to 18,000 miles already) so I decided to go with the K&N.Jim

I haven't decided yet. I had thought about doing every 5000 miles as per the long trip schedule, but I may do something like every 3500 or so. I know it may seem like a waste of money but I really do need to ensure this car lasts me a long time and at about 95 miles round trip to work 5 times a week.....that is a lot of miles. I really want to do what is best for my engine.Jim

Funny, I missed my 18k appointment so I made an appointment later today to get Amsoil 10w30 25kmile oil in my Vibe. For me it seemed like I was always changing my oil, 3k goes by quick! And I was always changing it a couple weeks late.

If you drive 95 miles a day round trip isn't that mostly high way? I drive 45 miles round trip per day, 85% highway, so I go 5000 miles between oil changes on regular dino (as in dinosaur ) oil. I'm thinking about switching to amsoil and changing it every 10K miles.
Yes...it is mostly highway, however, there are a couple of spots where traffic bottlenecks and I often just sit there idling and doing stop and go for a few miles. I may do the 5000 miles between....bot sure yet.Jim

quote:not worth the money for the k&n drop in. its liek a third of the price of a short ram. why?If you are just looking for a replacement filter then you cant beat them...of course they will also save you money over paper filters in the long run too!!I ran one on the vibe before my short-ram and on my Jeep before that....in the case of the Jeep...i was going off-roading w/ the Jeep Club and using up a paper filter at each event b/c of all the dust etc... K&N was great!!

Actually...I was looking at the owner's manual and I had a brain fart. The long trip schedule is 7,500 miles.....not 5,000 miles between oil changes. I may do the 5,000 but not the 7,500.Jim
