If you haven't heard Rush Limbaugh as quit the NFL show on ESPN based on some comments that were uneccesary. Now I dont condone his statements I dont think he should have quit for that. I think he should have quit because he's never played an sec of pro Football in his life. And that goes for all other commentators that think they really know the sport. I posted the story from ESPN below to bring yourself up to speedPHILADELPHIA -- Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh said Thursday he resigned from ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown" pregame show to protect network employees from the uproar over critical comments he made about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.Limbaugh quit late Wednesday, three days after saying on the show that McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed."The great people at ESPN did not want to deal with this kind of reaction," Limbaugh told the National Association of Broadcasters at its convention in Philadelphia on Thursday. "The path of least resistance became for me to resign."George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and ABC Sports, accepted Limbaugh's resignation Wednesday. ABC and ESPN are owned by Walt Disney Co."We regret the circumstances surrounding this," Bodenheimer said. "We believe that he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously."On Wednesday, McNabb said he didn't mind criticism of his performance, but was upset Limbaugh made his race an issue and said it was too late for an apology."It's somewhat shocking to hear that on national TV from him," McNabb said. "It's not something that I can sit here and say won't bother me."McNabb said in a statement issued Thursday by the team that he won't address the topic."I said all I have to on the topic at the press conference [Wednesday]," the statement read. "I spent more time on the subject than I expected to. It's time for me to concentrate on the Redskins and try to win a football game with my teammates this weekend."Talking about the ESPN comments, Limbaugh said Thursday he had thought about the issue the night before making the comments. He said he was used to scrutiny after 15 years in radio and expects to get attention."I figured if I'm going to do this [the ESPN show] I should be who I am," he said.About a half-dozen people protested outside the convention.Limbaugh has denied the comments he made on the show were racially motivated."I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said on Sunday's show. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."Chris Berman, who anchors the ESPN show, said he did not believe Limbaugh's tone or intent was malicious."As cut and dry as it seems in print, I didn't think so when it went by my ears," Berman said. "I probably should have looked to soften it."Democratic presidential candidates Wesley Clark, Howard Dean and the Rev. Al Sharpton had called for ESPN to fire Limbaugh over the remarks. The NAACP also condemned Limbaugh's remarks, calling them "bigoted and ignorant."Limbaugh is the radio host of the politically focused "Rush Limbaugh Show," syndicated in more than 650 markets. ESPN spokesman Dave Nagle said ratings for "Sunday NFL Countdown" were up 10 percent overall since Limbaugh joined the show this year.
so, he said everyone is wanting to see a good black quarterback? that to me is not really racist, especially if it is the truth. i don't believe in racism, but i do find racial jokes funny - however contradicting that may be. people can talk about mexicans, asians, whites, etc, all day long, but once you refer to a black person, you are a racist and crossing the line. this double standard has to be stopped. the word cracker can be heard being said by black comedians all the time, i dare a white comedian to say the "N" word and still have a job. noone in america was ever brought over on a slave ship, white, black, it doesn't matter. no race owes any other race for something that is far in the past.

Where's my 10 foot pole, cause I'm not touching this one.BTW, I am an eagles fan and I do think that Donovan is over rated. Three games into the season and how many TD's has he thrown?
quote:so, he said everyone is wanting to see a good black quarterback? that to me is not really racist, especially if it is the truth. iIt's not the truth. He was the runner in for the 2000 MVP award (in which I think Kurt Warner got that year) He also took the Eagles to two straight NFC Championship games. I dont care if he's racist or not. (actually I find racist people hillarious) My problem is the lame excuse he's using to attempt to support his comments. If you dont like them they you dont like them. Don't be a closet coward and pretend you really care because you know you dont.
I chose like most of the professional sports commentators, to keep race out of it. I think that Donovan McNabb is a fine quarterback. If someone says that he is overrated it is their opinion. To think that if I were to live in Philly would make a little difference. I am sure there you probably can not go anywhere without seeing his jersey/poster. Just like in Detroit when Barry Sanders played. A whole side of a building by Nike was dedicated to him. I think that it is still there but it has not been updated every year like it was before. To say Donovan McNabb is overrated because they want to see a black quarterback succeed is not a crime. I want to see a black quarterback succeed as well. It is not like Donovan is breaking new ground. Rush is neither wrong or write in what he said. He should not have said it on that show where you have to be open minded. Just like they said in the column, he has never played NFL football. Has he played college ball/is he a scout/is he an expert opinion on quartbacks/he is just a couch potato like so many of us that wishes he could play. For being a political analyst for so many years he should have learned by now that he should have said that Donovan is overrated, and left it at that.
Just here to lend a hand to people who have questions about their Vibe.

It was a genocide that was ok because white people could not get along with each other. Just like 9-11 we all should never forget. We should be thankful that we are not still fighting.

My 2¢.Rush has the right to say what he wants, when he wants. Just like you and me. However, just like you and me, he has to accept the consequences of his words. The First Amendment protects the right to free speech in regards to government action. This doesn't protect you from the social repercussions of your words. If I tell my boss that he's an (removed), he has every right to fire me for insubordination. The same would be true if I uttered a racial slur.On many levels I disagree with Mr. Limbaugh's statement. Yes, Donavan McNabb got off to a poor start of this season, as did many quaterbacks. But to call into question his skills as a player after his previous sucsess, is foolhardy. Many players are hyped well beyond their talent or potential. I know that I will catch some flack for this, but Brian Urlacher is one of those players. Now that his supporting cast has been diminished (Traylor & Washington most notably), Urlacher seems mediocre. Is McNabb a media creation? Only time will tell. But to bring up race as the motivating factor for his hype, was down right stupid.

the american indian of today was never kicked off their land, they know nothing more than we do of such tragedy. as a mattter of fact, they now run casinos and are far ritcher than you or i. if that is the case, everyone is owed something. how do you think countries are formed? that used to be how land was aquired. survival of the fittest. not that i think that it is a good thing, don't get me wrong.

quote:well do you agree or disagreeThat is if you're not an Eagles FanRush is a moron.Has he never heard of Doug Williams? I believe he won a Super Bowl and was black. What about the other 8 ot 9 other starting quarterbacks in the league who happen to be black? The Eagles got of to a poor start that's all. It's not all McNabbs fault. Let's remember, the Eagles don't have Jerry Rice, Chris Carter and Randy Moss as wide receivers. We have Joe Nobody and John Doe. His skills wouldn't be questioned if we had receivers who could actually catch. In addition, we have a defence that is falling apart with injuries and gave up a ton of points in the first two games/losses.However, I do see the starts of the "Randall Cunningham" syndrome where he hears everyone telling him he's so great that he believes he's better than he really is and then he starts being more concerned with his image than he is about his play. This happened to Randall but I hope it doesn't happen to Donovan. It could happen very easy in a city like Philly where the fans are totally nuts about football. Stepford fans.
