tow kit and cargo rails

Post by leaster1939 »

I want to add a tow kit on my 2009 vibe gt. 1.25 inch receiver for a bike carrier. Also want to add cargo rails to roof. Should have got them when I bought the car. Anybody had experience adding these items and what is a recommended source.

You can get a hitch from several places online for a reasonable amount, but make sure you get one for a Vibe GT or Matrix XRS. They have a lower bumper cover than the regular Vibes, so a regular hitch won't fit without cutting. I had one that fit my son's 06 Vibe, and it was too high to fit on my 10 GT unless I removed the lower part of the bumper. I could have cut the black plastic to fit around the receiver, but did not want to have it mounted permanently. If you don't mind cutting the lower bumper, then you can use any Vibe hitch. I got mine used for $45 on craigslist. There are a few people on here with them on their 09-10 GTs , and maybe they can give you a good part number. There are a few threads on it too.

As for the roof rack, I would get the one for the 09-13 Matrix. It is much better looking IMO and appears to be more substantial than the OEM one for the Vibe. I've seen them on ebay for about $250 or so. Again, there are some threads on here about it.

Good luck!
