I went to have my dealership put on the top mount spoiler. The body shop manager told me he was hesitant because the metal that it gets mounted to is so thin that he thinks when I get up to speed it would just come right off. He also told me that wherever it got drilled into if they did do it WOULD rust. I need some advice. I didn't get it put on because I don't want to take the chance but I'm not sure that the spoiler was made without thinking of these factors. I bought the spoiler from CARiD a while ago.
In bodyshop language, what he was saying was, " i will do it but I am not guaranteeing anything because I don't really do custom work and have no faith in my no talent techs to do anything but change parts". It doesn't screw into the metal, it bolts thru it. That panel is hi strength steel which is very rip resistant and every option i have seen for these cars is well designed and made to do what they are supposed to do. Also what he just told you was the techs aren't smart enough or are driven for time to where they won't take the time to paint or seal the holes they drill before they put it on. Find a bodyshop with a good rep and custom cars sitting in the employees spots and run away from the stealerships. It used to be the place to work but now is a place for guys who can't make it in the real world. What you asked for is a simple install. Pays an hour, tech can do in 20 minutes, probably took longer for him to tell you no. Bodyshops work for the insurance companies now and you represented what is called "walk in trade" which the manager is supposed to steer away to keep the shop free. It is no longer customer satisfaction that is sought but insurance ratings that is the driving force in most shops. Sorry for the rant but the industry has really taken a turn for the worse in the last few years.

Thanks for the rant lol. No worries! I have alot of respect for this dealership. Have family that work there and have gotten custom work done there before. They do pretty decent work for a dealership. I trust his opinion. I will most likely put it on myself. I wasn't getting charged for it in the first place because I was having work done before there and the body shop manager told me not to worry about it which was nice. Thanks for your advice!
