Throttle Body

Post by noguice »

Hey guys, I've been coming here off and on for a while, but have never really been active. I'm on my 2nd vibe (both have been '05 base models)
I've been having a problem with rough idle and a bucking at low rpm speeds around 40mph. After replacing the overdue plugs, and a general tune up i eventually replaced the MAF sensor and for 4 months it drove great again. A couple weeks ago, it started acting up, so i replaced the sensor under warranty but didn't help.
So far i've tracked it down to what i believe is a throttle position issue as it's ready about 17% at rest and 80% all the way down.
Unfortunately, '05 is the first year they went to an electronic throttle body, so the TPS is integrated and I have to replace the whole throttle body as a unit. Everywhere I've looked for specifically Pontiac Vibe throttle bodies, they only list the new replacements which run $350-$800+. However, If i look up the Matrix throttle body, i can get a Cardone Reman TB for under $90.

I know these cars are clones, same engine, drivetrain, etc. Is there any reason, perhaps in the electronics, that the toyota TB won't work on the Vibe?
If not, I'll place an order for this one http://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/DC/ ... oC_iPw_wcB and get this thing purring again.

Thanks

The Matrix and Corolla engines from the same years are completely identical. You don't run into differences unless you're looking at the HVAC system, PCM, stereo harness, ignition switch, and stereo bezel.

is there a specific gasket for the throttle body? The ones i see listed on rockauto, advanced, etc do not look like they match the mating surface of the TB to manifold.

Thanks,
My wife's car is down waiting on a timing chain, so want to make sure i've got all the parts on hand before swapping this part so i don't have to worry about running anywhere until i'm done.
