Paint isn't just thin..it's REALLY thin.

Post by Jahntassa »

This morning, at some point between 11 pm last night and 7:30 this morning, someone egged. Yes.. EGGED. My vibe. Parked in my fiancee's driveway, there were about six eggs thrown, one of which thankfully flew right over and landed in the nearby lawn.. But they hit the drivers door, the roof, the hatch, and multiple hits in those areas. The paint where the eggs splattered seems okay... I washed it and scrubbed it down...but the impact points have a small half-ring of chips in the paint. This, combined with the chips already all over the front of the car, means i'm going to my dealership and raising hell. I know eggs can eat through clearcoat (or some other part of the paint), but this paint is chipping WAY TOO EASY.

Can you file an insurance claim on the damage? I'm not entirely sure whether it would be your car insurance or your fiancee's homeowners/renters...but I would think it should be covered by one or the other, since it was damaged by something beyond your control.

Make sure you file (or already filed) a police report. Helps your case with the insurance companies...

I think they prefer if you call them before you move the vehicle, or wash it in the case of egging...it might make it a little harder to prove if you didn't take pictures of the vehicle before you washed it. :

Just looking at it makes the paint fall off. Here is just one of my rants. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5132

This is all pretty much true. In fact...I knew I should've taken pictures before I did anything. But unfortunately...I had to take my Fiancee to work at the time I found everything. I'm still going to go to the dealer about the chips on the hood that were already there, see, if anything, if I can get a bottle of touch up out of it.Tonight i'm putting my camera with some motion-detecting security software in a window. It's probably an isolated incident, but if they try it again tonight, i'm going to catch them. I'll even put a small sign in the window saying "this car under video surveillance."
