Airbag Inflator Recall: Passenger side

I have a 2005 Vibe Base. I heard that it may be recalled at least one year ago, and did in fact receive a letter from GM in July of 2015 informing me that the recall for the front passenger airbag inflator is in effect.
The letter also explained that no parts are yet available and that I will receive another letter informing me when parts are available. I was advised "not to use the front passenger seat until the recall is completed." So I've waited almost 6 months. It's getting a bit irritating to say the least.
So yesterday I Googled "GM complaints" and found their complaint dept. I phoned them, got a person on the line after only a short wait and explained my situation. The person asked if I could be put on hold, and then made some phone calls. She then conferenced me with a parts guy at a Chevy dealer, only 8 miles away from where I live. He said he could order the part from somewhere and within a few days when he receives it, he will call me to schedule the service.
I'm hopeful that I'll be taken care of within a week or so, but I am wondering how the guy found the part. This kind of sluggish delay makes me think carefully about whether I'll purchase another GM product in the future.

Did your letter from GM list the years involved with this passenger side airbag recall?

The letter states that the defect affects all 2003 - 2007 model year Pontiac Vibes.

Interesting! I received the same letter for My 2005 Vibe base in July 2015. I haven't heard anything further from GM. Thanks for the info!

Update: Still waiting for the GM parts guy to call me to let me know that he has the part that he promised in a few days. (ordered on Dec. 16th) I'll give him the benefit of the holidays and call them again in about 7-10 days.

I just went in anyway and they scheduled me and ordered the part. Thousands of cars from many brands are affected by this recall, so it wouldn't be at all shocking if they were tight on supply.

I got the letter. Whent to my gm dealer. They ordered the part and i had an appointment 1 week later.

It took about 1.5 hours to "fix" whatsver they did. Free of charge of course. Did not have any problems since.


My brother has the same car and they did the same thing. But apparently him it was the driver side for some reason? The only difference between our cars is color. Mine is orange and his is white.

After not hearing from the dealer for 3 weeks I called and was told, "....well the part is here, I'm not sure why no one called you." So I will go in tomorrow morning and get it changed.
